MOSCOW, Russia: A Russian attack targeted port infrastructure in Ukraine's Izmail district in the southern Odesa region overnight, Ukrainian authorities said on August 17.
The authorities said the attack caused fires in the area, but added on the Telegram messaging app that all the fires had been put out.
Russia's Defense Ministry said its forces had struck military targets at the port. It described the targets as "a berthing terminal used for unloading vessels carrying military cargo, hangars housing Western military equipment, and depots for naval drones".
Izmail is located close to the border with Romania and is home to Ukraine's largest port on the Danube River.
In a separate attack, Russia said its forces had struck a patrol boat and fuel storage tanks in Odesa.
However, the local governor said a civilian vessel flying the Togo flag was damaged in the attack. He also said that four people were injured.
