I am a curator of contemporary art with specialism in new media, information art and art-science work. I am a guest professor in Art and AI at Umeå University in Sweden as part of a research project funded by the Wallenberg AI and Autonomous Systems Programme - Humanities and Society (2023-2028). I have curated over 50 exhibitions internationally, many including newly commissioned art works, on topics relating to how we live in a technological world. These include exhibitions on databases, video broadcasting technology, the rise of social media, genetic modification and biotechnologies, addictive algorithms, and AI. I've held research fellowships at Tate in London, The Banff Centre for the Arts and Creativity in Canada, and was the inaugural curatorial fellow at Eyebeam Art and Technology Center in New York. My PhD (2004), with BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in Newcastle/Gateshead considered how museums exhibit technology-led works of art. The digital has changed how we commission, curate and collect art.
