Dr Rohini Balram is an Adjunct Fellow at the Humanitarian and Development Research Initiative (HADRI), Western Sydney University, and the author of Young Indo-Fijian Women Breaking Barriers in Fijian Sporting Spaces: An Arts-Based Approach (Palgrave Macmillan, 2025). She is a researcher, educator, creative writer, and fitness and wellbeing practitioner working across movement culture, sport, public health, gender, social justice, and human rights. Her interdisciplinary research uses culturally responsive, arts-based, and participatory approaches to explore how inequality shapes opportunities to move, participate, belong, and thrive, particularly among women, marginalised, migrant, and culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Her work is informed by feminist, decolonial, intersectional, and human rights perspectives. Beyond academia, Rohini is a mid-distance runner, poet, and community volunteer.
