Gordon Conochie

(he, him)

I'm the author of two books published by Monash University Publishing, one on Cambodian politics and another on Indigenous politics in Australia.

'Then, Now, Always: Ten Years of Voices for Treaty and Truth' tells the story of the Uluru Statement and the following years, when hearts filled with hope and disappointment by turns, and Indigenous peoples remained defiant in calling for truth and treaty. Through the voices of those from diverse perspectives, including Jill Gallagher, Megan Davis, Marcia Langton, Lidia Thorpe, Jacinta Price and Warren Mundine, it examines the paths to treaty, and what remains ahead.

It will be published on 1 March 2027. Since 2022, I've worked in Aboriginal affairs including for the First Peoples' Assembly of Victoria.

'A Tiger Rules the Mountain - Cambodia's Pursuit of Democracy' (2023), is a narrative non-fiction book covering the attempts of the world's longest serving Prime Minister to hang onto power following an uprising in 2013 and the subsequent multi-year wrestle for power.

Praise for 'A Tiger Rules the Mountain':
"Intriguing, enriching" - Prof. Gareth Evans AC KC, former Australian Foreign Minister
"A must read, remarkable" - Prof. Sophal Ear, Arizona State University
"Extraordinarily compelling" - Mary Ann Jolley, Senior Reporter, Al Jazeera
"Vital readings" - Sebastian Strangio, Editor, The Diplomat

I often provide comment and analysis on Cambodia appearing on ABC and SBS TV and radio and in various newspapers (e.g. Associated Press, Reuters, The Age/Sydney Morning Herald).

I've conducted extensive research in the education sector in Cambodia and published articles in Great Britain on health and care in the community.
