Bruno Barcante Ladvocat Cintra

  • Research Fellow, Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences and Birmingham Institute of Forest Research, University of Birmingham

Bruno Ladvocat is a forest ecologist whose work focuses on understanding how forests respond to environmental change across temperate and tropical ecosystems. His research integrates long-term monitoring, tree-ring analysis, stable isotopes, and forest structural data to investigate regeneration dynamics, tree physiology and growth, and forest-climate relationships. He has led and contributed to large multi-site studies across Great Britain, and in the Amazon his work has examined changing flooding regimes, droughts, hydrological intensification and their consequences for forests and society.

Bruno researches temperate forests in collaboration with projects from the Birmingham Institute of Forest Research (BIFoR), an institute of over 100 academics conducting fundamental ecological research. BIFoR is known for its world-class research woodland in central England (the BIFoR FACE facility), as well as for projects extending to forested landscapes around the world.

Bruno also researches tropical forests in collaboration with the Universities of São Paulo, Sergipe, Santa Catarina and the National Institute of Amazon Research, institutions that are internationally recognised for their leadership in tropical and subtropical forest science. These partnerships form a key scientific foundation for understanding the ecology and conservation of South American forests.
