The Practice of Living Well

Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

A guided course in literature and life. Read deeply, reflect honestly, and practice living well through heartbreak, happiness, and meaning. Practice virtue; thrive. HappyHumanist is your portal to the good life. Two modes: The Practice and The Course Heartbreak & Happiness is a guided course for people who want to live more thoughtfully. This app brings together literature, philosophy, and reflective practice to explore love, loss, desire, identity, and meaning. It is not therapy. It is not self-help. It is an education in attention… and a practice of living well. At the heart of the course is an older, more demanding idea of happiness: eudaimonia. In classical philosophy, happiness does not mean feeling good all the time. It means human flourishing… living well and doing well over the course of an entire life. A good life is not a mood or an achievement. It is a way of acting, choosing, and responding to the world, especially when things are difficult. From this perspective, heartbreak is not a failure of happiness. It is one of the places where character is formed. Loss, disappointment, and grief are not detours from the good life. They are among the conditions that make judgment, resilience, and care possible. Each week, the course offers a small set of readings, questions, and practices drawn from great writers and thinkers. You read, reflect, and write at your own pace. There are no grades, no streaks, and no pressure to perform. Your work stays on your device, and the course unfolds according to your life, not an algorithm. The course explores: • Friendship, love, and intimacy • Heartbreak, suffering, and resilience • Identity and the stories we inherit • Desire, ethics, and responsibility • Meaning, endings, and how to author a life Literature is treated as a practical tool… a way of seeing clearly, remembering better, and asking better questions. Reading becomes a form of training. Writing becomes a way of understanding who you’ve been, who you are, and who you might become. Heartbreak & Happiness does not promise comfort or quick fixes. It offers structure, language, and sustained attention for the long project of living well. The app includes: • A ten-week guided course, fully self-paced • Short framing essays and classic readings • Reflective writing prompts and repeatable practices • No account required and no advertising All core content is free. Donations are optional and support ongoing development. Your inner life is yours. This app simply offers questions, company, and form for the work of becoming human.
