I was unsure of Sufferfest initially and wasn’t really engaged during the trial period. It links very well to Wahoo Kickr but I upgraded my heart rate strap to one supporting Bluetooth so it’s all available in one place. The link to Garmin has also worked well with each Sufferfest session appearing immediately in Garmin Connect. Having completed the fitness test the effort is now set at a challenging level for me and the videos are varied and entertaining. There are lots of training sessions to address weaknesses or build strengths and I like the GMBN training sessions which feel more like a gym class. I hadn’t expected to use the yoga sessions but being just 15 minutes they make a good start to the day without much commitment and I think the stretching is beneficial. There is enough choice to provide variety and to work on different areas. The mental toughness section is another benefit and it has helped me see the real goals I should be aiming toward. Finally, I have only just started the strength section so will have to see how that goes.Overall much more content than I had expected, easy to use and well thought out.
Goes from strength to strength

I’m not into video games so Zwift has never been something I have ever enjoyed. I want something that gets me fit and makes me work hard. I have limited time, especially during the week so every minute has to count. Sufferfest, now Wahoo has never disappointed. I started with the original Sufferfest videos in fact way before the app came along. The training plans are now absolutely superb and focus on YOUR strengths and weaknesses based on the 4 Dimensional Power Test. Their training plans are therefore NOT multi vitamin plans designed for anyone and everyone. I tend to do 2 12 week plans over the autumn and winter and now spring is here and I am hitting the roads every weekend, I am on fire! Yesterday all my riding buddies commented on how I attacked every little numb and climb. This really works. And if you do like video games, it also includes RGT which I have tried on rides I know reasonably well and I found it reasonably enjoyable! Do it. You won’t regret it.
Motivating and challenging workouts from home!

Not a huge cyclist, but had a road bike gathering dust. Managed to get a smart trainer (the Kickr core -excellent) as I wanted to work on my fitness during the lockdown, and didn’t want to do much running. I cannot believe how good the workouts I’ve had using this app; I have no doubt that it will improve my fitness over time. I’m currently using a training plan and am excited to retest my FDP at the end of it! The also has loads of extra features (yoga/strength) which I don’t use personally, as I already do these, and loads of information on the workouts and fitness tests so you really get to understand the purpose of each session. No wasted time in the saddle, super efficient!Note - have a towel/water nearby because you’ll need it!
Missed Opportunity

I’ve been using sufferfest on and off for a few years now and was hoping that this update would bring some much needed improvements. From my usage of just road cycling plans, and no other activities I was finding that it desperately needed new content and the UI could do with sorting out. The reason I keep coming back to sufferfest is the structured training plans and tailoring them to specific weaknesses but I was finding that there were only 2 for me to choose from and once you’ve been through them a few times they get awfully boring. The update seems to have added an improved way of picking plans as that had taken a backward step from the original way of doing it, but I’ve yet to see any new content. Once you start a workout, other than the font on the metrics being slightly different it’s exactly the same and this is an area where it should have been improved- from the annoying overlay of the time on top of the workout graph to some of the workouts having unreasonable hr zone targets, some of the workouts in another language with subtitles too small to read. Most annoying for me at the moment is with the old app I could search for a workout in my history and find a list of all my results to compare them. That ability seems to have been removed and now I’m left with scrolling through the calendar to find how I’ve performed on previous workouts. So far my take on this new app is it’s mostly a marketing tool to sell the Wahoo products and once you get to doing an actual workout, nothing much has changed. I see this as a bit of a missed opportunity, I want variety and structured plans that set what to do and when. They could have been really inventive, how about adding a ghost mode on workouts that you have done before to compete against, or giving you useful stats during or after a workout like “new power record for this workout “ and I’m sure there are many other things that could have spiced it up. To add to that I’ve yet to see any challenges so not sure if or how they work but regular challenges would make it more interesting. All in all a bit of a let down and I think there should be more for what it costs.
