I boat on Loch Lomond and go through narrow passages between islands only a few boat lengths wide. At night I have to know exactly where I am and for this the app is fantastic. I run it on a cellular iPad and simultaneously on a Wi-Fi iPad getting gps from an iPhone using the app GPS2iP so that I have two separate sources of GPS on independent plotters. When I set up routes I follow firstly in daylight and adjust as necessary for following in complete darkness. The bits that are of no use to me are auto routing, bottom geology (not available for Loch Lomond) so I did not renew my subscription. The satellite map would be fairly useful but not worth the subscription. Having said all of the above I have great confidence in the basic app and when using I set to course up, less than 5 meters depth to blue. For me the best update was night mode as the colours don’t spoil your night vision. I would highly recommend this app.
Losing GPS in ios14
Tony K2
I have used this app for years, paid multiple times as they changed it, HD, Holland and UK and now Boating. I was unable to sync between devices and paid again to get it to work. It’s really expensive but I ignored it because it worked and I have many years of sailing recorded. This season it’s been a total disaster losing the gps, unable to record distance and some silly fastest speed spikes. The worst is as you sail it intermittently loses gps, recording 0 knots then 7 suddenly as it catches up. I tried all the support advice, even resetting my phone completely to factory settings, no fix! Used another iphone same issue. Very frustrated and disappointed!! Update - an old iPad mini running iOS 12 works ok. iPhone 6 Plus/ IPhone X / iPhone 12 Pro running iOS 14 all drop the signal, flat lining for minutes so the speed is zero and distance not calculated for 90% of the time. I bought a Garmin GLO 2 Bluetooth gps which works fine with the phones running iOS 14. The issue is clearly that this app is no longer compatible with the most recent apple devices running iOS. Let’s see if iOS 15 makes any difference….. Update ios15 April 22, the problem of dropping signal with iPhone remains. The speed flat lines every few seconds and distance is wrong. Garmin GLO 2 which connects to iphone using Bluetooth makes it work with no dropped signal.Updated to latest version in August 2023, after email saying all fixed, but alas it is not fixed and just terrible. Seriously bad flat lines. I need to keep using my Garmin, but maybe this is the end of the line, time to switch to Orca I think.

Left handed - Marker issue
Bonnie Brett
I have been using the App for 3 years now and I love it. I am happy with how I can plan routes, understand weather and tides and I have a love and hate relationship with the Market button, which I am writing in hope to inspire the developers. On moving about my screen with my left hand, I end up touching the marker bottom, which creates a marker at my current location. On planning and researching passages, this takes me across the maps, loses me locations etc. It is a pain. Even worse, I spend hours deleting my unwanted markers. In contrast, I love the ability to create markers. I set several, so I can easily find where I am heading, or exit emergency strategy etc. Right now I am planning a big passage, and I have created several markers, and my routes are set to my markers. It is a very powerful tool, if only my left hand wouldn't set it going of

Dear Customer, thank you for your 4 stars and for your comment about the Marker on the Fly in our App. Your suggestion has already been forwarded to our developers for consideration for future App enhancements. We cannot guarantee a precise date when this may be implemented. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook and check our website for news about new product releases. Have a lovely day.
The initial version of this app was flawless, serving as an exceptional tool for navigation. With my 22 years in the boating industry, particularly in the super yacht domain, I found it to be an excellent backup tool, even aiding in sailing during off-work hours. However, recent issues with logging in and out have plagued not only me but several other users. What was once a reliable and secure navigation aid has now become unreliable. Being locked out without the ability to regain access compromises the safety it once provided. I urge fellow seafarers to exercise caution when relying on this app and to have a backup system in place. My plea to the developers is simple: involve sailors and captains in the app's development to prioritize safety and navigation once more. Let's work together to elevate this app back to its former top position.
