Hunt a Rathalos through your neighbourhood in this location-based AR adventure, which deftly packs everything we love about Monster Hunter into a portable package.
If you've come for a Monster Hunter experience, you'll be very disappointed. There are only 6 weapons, and the balancing of them is incredibly weak, made worse by atrocious hitboxes. Every fight is a DPS check, so you're pretty much funnelled into a certain style of play. Oh, and the game is prone to slowdowns, but the clock will still countdown in real seconds, which will drastically hinder your rewards. Oh yeah, the rewards are the worst kind of RNG, you're more likely to get better rewards for A rank hunt times, but not always. A rank a 3 or 4 star hunt? Level 1 crafting materials. You can't craft potions to stay in the game either. That's a store purchase. Not zenny, dollars and cents. And it's not cheap either. Your palico will collect non-landmark resources as you pass, this is good. But it's paintballs (3 per day) are random with no way to narrow down what gets tagged. You wanna fight a 6 or 7 star monster? Nah mate, 1 star Great Jagras, get rekt son. I've tried to like this game, but Niantic have somehow launched a worse product than Pokémon Go was at launch, and this does not have the same player base/server issues Go did. This is a soulless, soulsucking insult to the Monster Hunter name, and is clearly a weak cash grab carting off the success of World, Iceborne, Rise and Subreak. Wouldn't wish this on anyone.
I’ve loved the monster hunter series for a while now but when I downloaded this game I didn’t expect much from it. However I can say that it blew a lot of my expectations! The game is quite similar to Pokémon Go obviously being made by the same creators but it has its own unique game style where it requires a lot more knowledge to complete the tougher hunts than chucking a ball into a moving circle. It pleases both the fans of monster hunter and casual gamers by having certain goals to reach. For me it was trying to discover the large monsters which there is lots and lots of. The fighting mechanics are simple but still requires a level of concentration and skill to target a monsters weak spots and I’ve found that the different weapons all have there pros and cons. Each one is useful in a way and I don’t think there is any real stand out weapon better than the rest. It’s a step up from the classic Pokémon go if you want a more interactive gaming experience of this type.
So I have been playing this game a lot since it dropped and I was so very close to rating this 5 star because it was a very enjoyable experience, however, when you get to a anjanath and rathian the game takes a super dramatic spike in difficulty and that isn’t just the former mentioned monsters, everything takes such a spike that even 5 star puki puki take me out in one hit and I have a hard time killing it in time, this would be fine if it wasn’t for the fact that most of the monsters that spawn around me now are 4-5 star with the occasional lower level, I can’t fight much now and I never have pots. (Just to add, I have grade 5 tobi armour and weapons that come up to the 300 damage range) To add to this, the first event was ridiculous, the only people who could take out a Diablos were people who have played the game none stop or spoofed, what kind of a first event was that? 🥴Please fix the difficulty spike and give us a first event that actually caters to all players please. Like a double resource and monster reward day or something.
I absolutely love this game, I do however have 2 wee issues that I personally feel could be imported upon. First is the cost of the wonder droplet, the item which increases your radius by 50% I feel is a little too expensive for the not massive increase, 50% is big but I don’t feel it is large enough for costing £5 where you can’t even get 2 for that price. The other is the travel restriction, I travel by bus a whole lot and I’d love to have my phone open collecting any resource points and hunting any monsters I come across however when you travel at a certain speed you are unable to do anything, not even collect which takes mere seconds, I get why this is in the game to stop people driving and playing the game but I feel it’s way to restricting. These are just my personal little issues however they don’t soil the game experience massively and I still adore this game. 9/10
It’s been a few months and early stuff is fine with progression, gear upgrade to difficulty collecting materials despite monsters drop rates being ridiculously low.The health monetisation system is in desperate need of a rework if you want to challenge yourself leading to my main point, the lategame is massively off putting. After a while you run out of currency and realise the rate of earning is poor, limited material storage space is a problem as more monsters get added, the roster is understandably limited for now but that will probably change if the game continues to be supported. Events featuring limited time or exclusive monsters are more difficult with unlikely chance of other players to match it which will be more of a problem as people get put off by this system. Personally I was affected by the bowgun nerf in the last update as that’s the weapon I specialised in increasing difficulty even more.Premium currency can’t be earned like PoGo, meaning the store is only for people that can spend on these things. Gathering points based on the pokestop system are fewer and far between for some reason and health items can’t be found from them.I’m currently debating between taking a more casual approach to the game or completely uninstalling it, I don’t want to as I have spent hours a day playing and enjoying it but changes and lategame have made this game more and more of a struggle.
Absolutely love the Monster Hunter franchise! One of my favourite! I have played many of the games and have tried to get as many people as possible into it over in the UK and America. I am so glad World and Rise were a massive success as this was very much needed to enable the success of all Capcom’s Monster Hunter games going long into the future and opening a broader audience. I am not a mobile gamer at all but I couldn’t resist trying this out. So far I am enjoying it. Only thing I would say so far is the amount of materials to make upgrades seem a little excessive but I get why it has been implemented like that and helps keep the longevity of the game going. I truly hope this lives up to the amazing almost 20 years of what I consider a masterpiece franchise and am very much looking forward to what the future holds. Dan Kendell (Xbox GT - DANTHEMAN229.
I’ve been playing this game for I think 3 years and it is quite fun. However, there are a few problems, you only get 5 potions every day which then stack up to 10, if you have no potions your health takes ages to regenerate and upgrading weapons is such a drag, after 3 years most of my weapons are only 6 stars. Everything else is quite good but the things I mentioned could definitely be improved, like getting 5 potions for every hunt or removing travel restrictions so I can get more monsters for weapons, easy fixes that could make this game absolutely amazing, I know the developers probably won’t see this but PLEASE consider some of these things, especially travel restrictions (I REALLY REALLY HATE THEM) if they were removed I’d probably give 5 stars
The base game was always fun but lacking in incentive to hunt the same monsters over and over again. With the addition of new features like the monster tracker every hunt goes towards a hunting goal. Multiplayer in raids works very well and is another incentive to get stronger and help fellow hunters across the globe. The new feature “Driftsmelting” (weird name bro) allows you to finally be rewarded for the distance you’ve travelled by further buffing your armour, allowing you a chance to create the perfect build. New weapons and monsters and features are being rolled out at a good rate. I look forward to new updates. I think this game could do with a practice mode as a way to get to grips with weapons you’re unfamiliar with and generally admire a new weapon you’ve crafted.
It suffers from the same problem as pokemon go did. You can't be in a moving vehicle and play. Can't be a passenger and play it or ride the bus and play it. Immediately get a warning saying that gameplay is restricted while moving to fast. It's just a little bit disappointing considering how many people would probably be playing while commuting to work. Totally understandable to not play and drive that's illegal of course but as passenger? Would be nice to get the option to turn that off, as well turn off the other warnings like make sure your in a safe place. I'm not gonna be fighting a barroth in the middle of the road now am I?Also please add the ability to walk around in combat. Only being able to dodge roll is a bit annoying when you need to try and hit a certain body part but all you can do is roll like an idiot.
I enjoy playing this game and I am Hunter Rank 35 already! I spend most of my spare time playing this game. However, I do have an issue with the game. Make resources like heals and droplets more available for free. I know you get rewards when you level up but not every level. Items in the shop are way too expensive. I do a few hunts then have to turn off the game due to running out of heals. I think the game would be played so much more if we could continue to hunt as long as we want. All equipment and weapons are amazing and wouldn’t change it at all. I only run out of heals all the time so it makes me not play the game as long as I would like to. I spend more time waiting for my Hunter to have max health or wait for the daily gift in the shop. PLEASE MAKE HEALS MORE AVAILABLE!! Other than that, a brilliant game in my opinion 👍
