The society in which we live is still in need of achieving greater equality and integration.\u00a0Cases of\u00a0gender violence<\/a>\u00a0still open the news almost every day.\u00a0We still verify that there is a\u00a0gender gap<\/a>\u00a0in certain jobs or, even, we find out that\u00a0drugs are not usually tested on women<\/a>\u00a0, among other issues.<\/p>\n

However, these situations are much worse in other parts of the planet.\u00a0For example, there are countries where\u00a0female genital mutilation<\/a>\u00a0is still practiced , where girls are removed from the group when they have\u00a0their period<\/a>\u00a0or are forced to\u00a0marry<\/a>\u00a0at a very young age.<\/p>\n

In many places\u00a0girls do not have access to education<\/a>\u00a0.\u00a0There are countries where discrimination increases for racial reasons, for belonging to the LGTBIQ+ community or for having a disability.<\/p>\n

Investigate to achieve equality<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The work to achieve real equality has many forms.\u00a0One of them is research.\u00a0In the field of humanities it is fundamental, since cultural products (literature, painting, cinema, etc.) are, at least,\u00a0a reflection of these inequalities<\/a>\u00a0.<\/p>\n

As the artist and femnist activist\u00a0Yolanda Dom\u00ednguez<\/a>\u00a0explains , repeated stereotypes end up having an impact on our behavior.<\/p>\n

This is what\u00a0our research<\/a>\u00a0is about .\u00a0We have explored how, through time, the arts have shown different issues related to gender identities.<\/p>\n

In part, culture has contributed to shaping the idea we currently have of what it means to be a woman or a man.\u00a0Stereotypes, roles, violence, gender expression, etc.\u00a0These are some of the many issues that have been addressed and that can be consulted through the\u00a0Contextura<\/a>\u00a0informative website .<\/p>\n

A video game to educate in equality<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Now the project has gone one step further and the web hosts an educational video game, aimed mainly at teenagers (but which can be played by people of any age).\u00a0The game helps, in a fun and active way, to reflect on some of these issues.<\/p>\n

\"\"Thus, the main character, Iku, is a fruit of a tree, which has been loaded with stereotypes by listening to humans talk under the glass.\u00a0Falling from the tree he comes to life and feels heavy.\u00a0Various situations will help you to get rid of the armor that prevents you from moving quickly and seeing clearly.<\/p>\n

Iku travels through four scenarios in which he will meet characters as diverse as\u00a0Medusa<\/a>\u00a0, the\u00a0Bearded Woman<\/a>\u00a0from Ribera and the witches.<\/p>\n

Among the tests that you will have to pass there are from a dance duel to a small\u00a0escape room<\/em>\u00a0.\u00a0In the four scenarios, Iku will learn about the following issues:<\/p>\n

Invisibility of women<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0As an example of this, we can point out how many women artists could not sign the works with their names, but with that of their fathers or husbands.\u00a0An example of this is that of the painter\u00a0Clara Peeters<\/a>\u00a0, who portrayed herself in the reflections of the objects she painted as a way of showing that the author was a woman.\u00a0This situation can be seen, for example, in the first season of the series\u00a0La Peste<\/em>\u00a0, through the character of\u00a0Teresa Pinelo<\/a>\u00a0, who paints her works, signing her father’s name even after he dies.\u00a0A good resource on this subject is the documentary-series presented by Nieves Concostrina,\u00a0Pioneras<\/em><\/a>\u00a0.<\/li>\n
  2. Violence towards women<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0For example, Iku will learn about\u00a0Klimt’s <\/a>The Kiss<\/em><\/a>\u00a0and the origin of the scene, a passage from classical mythology that represents Apollo’s attempted rape of\u00a0Daphne<\/a>\u00a0.<\/li>\n
  3. Local identity and\u00a0gender expression<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0What clothes or what colors are for girls or boys are analyzed, according to our current culture, and the need to free oneself from these issues is addressed so that people, especially in adolescence, can freely show themselves as they are.<\/li>\n
  4. Stereotypes and roles<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0Care tasks are still linked to women.\u00a0For example, many\u00a0more women than men<\/a>\u00a0pursue studies such as nursing and early childhood education.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    A fun way to think<\/strong><\/h4>\n

    The video game can be used in formal educational contexts, since gender equality is a key point of the\u00a0current education law<\/a>\u00a0and one of the\u00a0Sustainable Development Goals<\/a>\u00a0, but it can also be used at home.<\/p>\n

    To do this, other educational games have been taken as a model, such as the one carried out by the\u00a0Museo del Prado<\/a>\u00a0on the occasion of its bicentennial, to make the women painters of its collection known.<\/p>\n

    We invite readers to enter the web, dive through the texts and play this fun and educational game, to use it in the classroom if they are teachers or at home if they have sons and daughters.<\/p>\n
