In a major speech today, Federal Health Minister Mark Butler\u00a0said<\/a>\u00a0vaping has become \u201cthe number one behavioural issue in high schools\u201d.<\/p>\n

The government today proposed a\u00a0suite of reforms<\/a>\u00a0aimed at reducing vaping.<\/p>\n

But what does the evidence show about the prevalence of vaping in schools and the kind of behavioural issues associated with it?<\/p>\n

My colleagues and I have been researching teen vape use through the\u00a0Generation Vape<\/a>\u00a0study. We\u2019ve been tracking teenagers\u2019 knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and behaviours about using vapes (also known as e-cigarettes).<\/p>\n

This has involved interviewing and surveying young people across Australia aged 13\u201317, their parents and carers and secondary school teachers, principals and administrators.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what we know so far.<\/p>\n
