Sexual violence is frequent in the university environment and affects\u00a0around 30%<\/a>\u00a0of the student population.\u00a0The victims of these sexual assaults, rapes or harassments are mainly women and the perpetrators of men.\u00a0In 9 out of 10 cases, the\u00a0victims know their attacker<\/a>\u00a0who may be the boyfriend, a romantic partner or another student.<\/p>\n Most often, it is a matter of getting victims to engage in sexual intercourse despite clear and repeated consent, or even going beyond their initial refusal.\u00a0These\u00a0coercive manipulations<\/a>\u00a0can consist of maneuvers of insistent seduction with physical contact, verbal and psychological manipulations or guilt attempts.\u00a0They can rely on force, or the deliberate use of psychoactive substances –\u00a0alcohol<\/a>\u00a0, cannabis – in the context of festive evenings.<\/p>\n This violence, which exists\u00a0in all living environments of<\/a>\u00a0young adults,\u00a0frequently begins in adolescence<\/a>\u00a0– a period when almost 20% of sexual relations are not consented.\u00a0They intensify until 24-25 years and decrease thereafter.<\/p>\n The perpetrators of this violence can share\u00a0negative \u201cnormative\u201d attitudes<\/a>\u00a0towards women.\u00a0This ranges from \u201ctraditional\u201d sexist male representations, to \u201caggressive\u201d forms of sexuality, notably with the acceptance and legitimization of violence against them.\u00a0This use of violence can mask experiences of insecurity, difficulties with emotional closeness, or an excessive need for partner control.<\/p>\n The\u00a0adherence to rape myths <\/a>\u00a0promotes<\/a>\u00a0sexual violence, while lower bound responsibility and guilt of the authors.\u00a0Among these cognitive distortions is the fact that “women can resist rape if they want to”, that “they cannot be trusted”, that “men have greater sexual needs”, which would justify that they seek all the opportunities to answer them, etc.<\/p>\nSociocultural factors<\/strong><\/h4>\n
