The Witcher 2

Running this on the most current, top of the line MacBook Pro 15” so you’d think it wouldn’t be an issue, but that’s not the case. I have to turn the settings to Low Spec and run at 1440x900 and even then the frame rates can be so poor it makes some of the fight sequences next to impossible. I’ve had to switch the game to Easy mode to simply get through some of the battles because the frame rates are so bad you have no chance of reacting appropriately or in time to get through it. If this weren’t the case this game would get a five stars hands down, for the story is very immersive, the main and side quests fun and engaging, and overall a solid action RPG. Personally I find it very annoying there is no “jump” action like most games have, space bar jump…I find myself trying to jump over small roots and annoyingly have to walk all the way around them when a simple “jump” ability would be much smoother. But then again, if I were able to smoothly jump over roots on the path there’s no way the frame rates would keep up with moving so elegantly so perhaps that’s for the better.
I have a n30pro2 controller from 8bitdo and the buttons are all wrong making QTES nearly impossible. Unless you have a xbox controller don’t bother.
TL;DR: Witcher 2 has been updated for Apple silicon and it runs really well. Just has some glitches on the heads of NPCs. Thank you CDPR!!! I bought this game years ago and had wanted to pick it back up, but alas it wouldn't run using Rosetta, nor would it run on an older Mac that met the requirements. Despite reaching out to support, I was bummed as it got nowhere. However, I was caught by complete surprise when I saw that Witcher 1 & 2 were updated for Apple silicon and immediately re-installed on my M1 Max MBP. I've played for a few hours at this point and can say that it actually runs better than it did on the top of the line Intel MBP that I had when this game was initially released on the App Store. The only reason it has four stars and not five - the head glitches. Several NPC characters that talk or are in cut scenes have this weird glitch where you can see the mesh triangles, and they all appear to be "z-fighting" which is when two meshes occupy the same space and they "fight" each other for prominence, so it looks all glitchy.
The game is a weird one. The RPG is beautiful, with some of the best graphics to date, but the technical issues, like framerate (even on recent hardware, its nearly impossible to run on higher settings), and convoluted story kind of bog the experience down. It’s best to play the first one, or read the novellas before trying to embark on this game’s quest because the story is so deep, to get the full impact, some background knowledge is needed. If you’re not at all going to pay attention to that, then the game is good, but not great.
It is an interesting action game, I finished 3, but not 2 or 1, although my previous experience terminated, I am sure that I and the game will eventually be compliant with its completion. It’s fun to sword fight in video games, in reality it’s no joke, it’s deadly, but peoples see that differently now, that the role has changed to a handgun, and you must be the law to hold one, otherwise you are in deep trouble I assume.
I am trying to run Witcher 2 on a max spec’d iMac 27, 4.2Ghz i7 processor, 32GB RAM, SSD, Radeon Pro 580 8GB, with the latest OSX and this game struggles. The mouse is laggy and the cut scenes have low frame rates. On top of that the game crashes every time I have tried to play it. After 3 hours of attempting to play this game, I haven’t even gotten to a point that I can save my progress. And finally, the description of “stunning graphics… the best-looking game on Mac” is no where close to reality. This game may have been ok on Windows, but the port to the Mac just doesn’t work.
Thanks to Apple dropping support for 32 bit applications, I purchased this and it was unplayable within less than a year due to the Catalina upgrade, which I needed to do for other reasons.Perhaps the App Store ought to offer refunds for products that no longer work due to Apple's decisions? Nah.....that's not how you get all the monies!
I bought this because I assumed if it was available on the App Store, it would run on a modern Macbook. However, I bought and downloaded the game, and now it won't launch because it "failed to initialize." What a waste of money, time and space.
I'm hoping the developer sees this, issues an update, or at least a refund. It simply doesn't work on modern MacOS. I get that it's available on Steam and elsewhere, but I mostly won't install things that don't come from the App Store (with a few exceptions).
The game was working fine util I updated my Mac to Catalina. The descriptionon the app store doesn't say anything about not being compatible with the newest OS. I can't find an email or other contact information for the developer.
