I originally came to give this new version a one star for constantly having a notification on the app logo (even after reading all the new articles, and even deleting and re-downloading the app). But after reading the other reviews giving the newest version a poor rating for simply the new layout, I have to disagree and bump my one star to a three star because I personally love the new layout and the simplicity of the way it now works. The app loads instantly and all the main articles are clearly displayed right there with the secondary ones bulleted below; perfect. However, like I said before the app always has a notification and it drives me nuts. I think it's a glitch since I've deleted the app and tried reinstalling it multiple times, each occasion it had a notification immediately upon download. So I'm not quite sure what's going on.Love the news you all put out and the hard work that everyone puts into Politico. Thank you.

When edition 4.0.0 appeared a few days ago I was completely confused and at first could not open Top News. I wrote a petulant review with one star. A couple of days later I wrote an update which sounded as though it had been penned by a five year old child. Then I did a second update which was completely unwarranted. For all of these I apologize to the administrators and journalists of this excellent political newspaper. Now that I have been able to find my way round it I am continually amazed by the large amount of news and videos. I totally deleted everything I had written previously and trust I may have many years of enjoyment of your columns. I have even found the way to reach your European Edition. This is all great stuff and makes a great companion on my iPhone to Marketwatch. I also have The New York Times app: my happiness is now complete!

POLITICO is hands down the best news source available today. I've since deleted most of my other news apps; I was sick of their push notifications of "breaking news" coming an hour or so after POLITICOS updates of the same information. As a strict Independent I am extremely sensitive to news bias (I can still enjoy NPR, but half the fun is laughing at the liberal bias), and POLITICO is the only news source which has my stamp of approval. The app itself is pretty easy to use and the adjustable text is a really easy to modulate, however the sections beside the front page don't really describe what they are so I'm weary of subscribing to them. That's my only 2¢ that I think could improve the app, this app has been on my home bar since the 2012 republican primaries and it isn't going anywhere.

Politico has definitely transformed the data platform for applying real-time data in a visionary user experience! I’m a huge nerd when it comes down to technical precision in economics and factual deliverance. Just from a UX/UI perspective alone is enough successful acknowledgment, no stone was left unturned. The website fluidity and navigational cues are superb and exciting....absolutely love it! The oral content hits the not only the major headliner topics, but the “between the lines” rhetoric. Superior web application designed to perfection comes without verbal rendering on it’s own! If you possess a fixation for economic performance and political authenticity, the recommendation is a given win and A minimum “5-Star” backing is just the start of surpassing the bar!! It’s all in the details...keep up the great work Politico!!!!!♥️🇺🇸💡⚖️📊📈

I open this app multiple times a day, every day, and I'm sorry to say it is complete garbage. I don't have to tell you the content is good. Of course it's good. You know it's good and that's why you'd download it and (maybe) tolerate it, despite innumerable technical flaws. Just getting the thing open can be a headache. Often you'll just see the logo and a black screen. Sometimes you'll boot it up, and photos from the main page will be missing. Once in the app, you tap on a story in the top news... but oops, you swiped left accidentally and now you're looking at another story in the top news list. No problem. You'll just swipe right again and get back to where you are, right? Nope. That takes you to a completely different story. You'll have to exit out and go find that story again. Rotate your phone and go to landscape view, then turn it back the way it was, and you'll find you've totally lost your place also. Push alerts are nice, sorta. Usually they come in the form of a lede sentence that's cut short. Wanting to see details, I often tap on one and it just opens the app without giving me any details. Politico is the most up to date, most thorough source of information on what's happening in the beltway, and I'm glad to have it in my pocket, but this app needs to be rebuilt from the start. Politico-- you need to start taking this seriously.

The content is worthwhile, but it's like the creators of this app want to prevent you from reading it. The "navigation" is like blindly jumping through hyperspace. You have no idea where you might end up. I try swiping left and right but, instead of smoothly moving between stories, it's all twitchy and spastic. I can see the edge of a story I want to get to, but I can't make it land on that story. Just moving my finger slightly to the left and right, which should just move me between two stories, flashes glimpses of 4 or 5 different articles.Other news apps give the impression that there's some stationary content that their app provides a window into. You have a sense how the stories are laid out and where you are in that context. Not so with the Politico app. Instead it's chaos. Blank pages, stories with a picture but no content, videos with no play button. It's incredibly frustrating.I am on an iPad Air 2 with iOS 10.3.2.

I have always liked this app. With the newest update however, once you have chosen an article to read, you can’t get back to the article menu. Instead you have to keep scrolling thru one article to the next, to rotate thru them all to find the ones you want.To me this is a step down from the prior edition’s layout, where you could scroll down the articles based on their topics, and not have cycle thru every single one to the topics you actually wanted to read.Perhaps the developer should do another update, to bring back the functionality of the prior iteration’s ability to allow the reader to see all the articles’ headlines at once, and for a reader to return to the main page with the article headlines once they have finished an article.

This might be the 3rd or fourth review I’ve left on an app since I’ve been an App Store user, which is about 8 years. I don’t do this often. I have been reading politico for about 8 years now. The journalism is world class; a real insider’s view of what’s going on in American and European Politics. Unfortunately, the new app is almost unusable. I have no idea why they would choose to change something that was working well enough. I usually read the app on an iPhone. When you open it now, instead of headlines being front and center, one has to scroll through an endless feed of articles. I’m not a “politico” so I appreciated how the old app organized content with some sort of editorial discretion, placing news that was most import in the forefront and pushing the more specialized content further down in the app. It seems as if all the stories just pop up chronologically without any judgement values placed upon its relative importance. I mean, this is what editors are supposed to do, right? Let us know what’s important and what’s not? They are the experts. The functions on the new app are also incredibly unintuitive. The main feed shows up and you scroll to the story you want. When you’re done with that story you can either swipe left to pull up the next story or swipe right to go back to the main feed. The problem is this only works about 10% of the time, and when it doesn’t work you have to manually shut close the app and reopen it in order to get back to the main feed. All in all, a solution to a problem that didn’t need fixing. I will continue to read Politico, but I hope they’re able to get out of whatever contract they’ve signed with this developer before too long. 5 stars for the journalism...1 Star for the App.

Politico is still my number one website for political news. Good, unbiased, informative journalism. But this app is broken. The breaking news updates, which used to be the app's best feature, is broken and usually will not open up the full update (they're long) when you open the app from the notification. The Facebook share feature is also broken. The app would be far improved if they just fixed the basic functionality that worked before. Reinstalls, resets, etc don't fix the problem.

I’ve been using the Politico app for years.The good: the content is very good. It’s comparable to what they have in their website and their breaking news is ahead of most other sites.The bad: the app simply doesn’t work when you’re offline. Try accessing it when you’re in the subway and no luck! And this even after you’ve been reading a few minutes before. At this stage it’s inexcusable that they don’t cache the content and let you access what you’ve already downloaded.Even worse, when you’re listening to music via Bluetooth and you launch the Politico app, it pauses your music! Huh???Politico, please fix these egregious bugs and I’ll come back and give a good review.
