So right before moving to munich I had the unwise idea to try a new distribution (version) of Linux on my laptop. Right after I arrived, the wifi on my laptop quit working! This was really bad news because I was in the process of trying to find an apartment so if I couldn't restore Internet to my laptop I'd probably end up spending over 100 euros in Internet cafes. Instead, I decided to try to use this app to download an Ubuntu Linux live cd and use that for the time being. So I went to Starbucks, got a coffee, and started downloading. Their Internet was kinda epic slow though so I only got half of the 700mb before it shut me off after the two hours limit (I hope they make a lot of money on those coffees, ha!) So i went back to the hostel and used their crummy connection to finish the download. Then I transferred the file to my laptop, created the live cd, booted off of it, and woohoo! Internet works again. I don't think there were any problems on the apps part. It downloaded a whole 700mb operating system on 2 different public wifi networks (allowing me to resume interrupted download like 15 times on the crappy hostel connection) without complaining so I am very pleased. Thank you! After submitting this review I'm going to see if they accept donations :) this saved me money.

  • A decade of use

To someone with limited resources, this app can be an absolute lifesaver. In school, I've used some version of this app for collecting material for offline use; homework, old tests, mock tests, syllabuses, study packets, diagrams, references, lectures, PERFORMANCE VIDEOS. I've saved music for personalized ringtones, I bought a copy for my mom to keep her knitting patterns, work applications, my New Hire forms were saved here, various event tickets, this app holds it all. Ive had bugs, some minor, some requiring me to extract my files through my computer, but even having that last option available is amazing, instead of having to lose everything when reinstalling the app. Bug fixes can be thin on the ground, and its apparent that not all iOS updates will agree with the app, but it always comes back into working order, and seriously. Its a worthwhile investment.Ive had this app since high school. That was a decade ago. Bought the first one. Bought the second version when its predecessor became obsolete. Would probably buy the next one, cuz its so friggin useful.

  • Not Enough Updates

Honestly, the app itself.. It’s amazing. I’ve been using it for countless years now. However, it seems like now the app can’t even handle the task it was made for. I go to download a simple audio file and every time i do the app crashes. Before it would just cancel the download and i’d have to find another way to get it onto the app.Now it’s come to a point where the app won’t even load. I’ll try to start it up and it crashes every time. Restarting my phone does nothing, recovery mode does nothing,.... i’ve tried multiple solutions. the only one that has worked is saving my data to my computer, deleting and reinstalling the app, and placing all the files back into the app.. That’s honestly too much work to say that I’ve never had this problem before. Now I don’t know if it’s because of the new iPhone updates, but honestly can’t blame them for always updating their products. I RARELY see updates from this app. Overall, great app but as of right now it’s not as usable as it once was due lack of updating for compatibility to the new IOS updates.

  • Amazing app!

This is a long review but you may find it helpful. I was having a problem with my PC and needed to download a 7gb ISO file but the only way I could do it was on my iPhone. I tried another app similar to this but I kept getting Checksum errors. Found this app and it worked flawlessly. Mind you I was using an Iphone 4s with the most recent OS and not the fastest internet connection. The download time was about and hour and a half which is not that bad for such a large file. I turned off the lock screen, kept it plugged in and did not use the phone during the download. Not one error occurred. Transferring to iTunes was a different story. To transfer a large file, turn on WiFi transfer while the phone is plugged into the computer USB port. Took a while but it worked. If you need a dependable, stable app to transfer large files, this is it! And it also has Dropbox support.

As many have stated, this program used to be called “Downloads” before iOS 11 came out, then it became unusable with the new OS. So then our friend Hian Zin Jong releases this update, gives it a different name, and charges more for it. The number one reason I even downloaded “Downloads” before was because of the ability to download movie and song files from the Internet. This new “Files App” has removed that functionality completely and is charging more. The only reason I downloaded and bought this was because I thought it would be just the same as the old “Downloads”. It’s not. So what you have is a basic Internet browser that has less functionality as the loaded Safari for iOS. Let’s not even get into Mr. Jong’s customer service as there is none and he replies to nothing. “Files App” is constantly crashing for the most mundane functions. It’s literally garbage. As far as I’m concerned this app is a waste of your time and money and you should look elsewhere. Congratulations on scamming so many people out of their money Mr. Wang. Capitalism is alive and well.

  • Great app, but...

Long ago, I used the now ancient and defunct “Downloads” app by this developer, even before they changed the interface to match iOS 7’s Music app. I had no idea that it had been removed from the App Store. Seeing that it was incompatible with iOS 11 + iPhone 7 Plus (would always crash upon opening), I had to remove all my files from it and delete it. Then I stumbled across “Files,” from the same devs.I like that Files has same interface and functionality as its predecessor, but some things could’ve changed with the new app.- It could have a dark theme. Looking like Apple Music was cool for perhaps a year. We need a toggle for a dark mode that does not involve smart invert.- Media playback in landscape orientation shouldn’t cover up 2/3 of the album art. Perhaps push it to the left and put media info/controls to the right?- Although simplicity is nice, the web access page could maybe be a bit more graphical.- The web access should have support for uploading multiple files at once without stuffing them in a zip folder. I find that having to scroll back down after each upload to be a pain, especially if the specific folder has a lot of files at its root.Overall, a great app to store things in, since personally, I don’t trust Apple’s new Files app.

  • This App Is Excellent

Downloads Lite (DLL) is a great tool and a lifesaver. I am frequently working at client locations that do not allow access to their network or the Internet for security reasons. With DLL, I can use my iPhone to get documents through email or download them from a directory on my office network. Once the files are on my iPhone, I can use DLL to transfer the files to my laptop using a USB cable. It works equally well in reverse if I want to send files by email or upload them to a directory via the iPhone web browser. The only drawback to the Lite version is there's a limit to the number of files you can retain in the DLL file manager (10, I think). I usually delete the files after sending or receiving them anyway. So, this is no problem at all. In summary, this is a terrific app and I highly recommend it!

  • Glad for the update but issues still exist

Hian, I’ve been using this app for years and was beyond delighted to see an update for this today. The update fixes the crash issue that was introduced with iOS 13. I am now able to save webpages again which was one of my primary uses. It seems now however that you took out the ability to set mime types. This was instrumental in the functionality so now the download option for a lot of file types is now broken and thus unable to be saved. I’m not sure what would have led you to this decision, but I implore you to add it back. If this were implemented again your app could easily be the best download manager on the App Store. My last suggestion would be to add an alphabetical scroll option to the files view. Thank you again for your work, I look forward to future improvements.

  • Great App

I use this app for all my music because a lot of it can’t be downloaded through ITunes, instead I use mp3 files with this app. An interesting thing happens every now and again though. I’ll be listening to an audio file and then I’ll use my screen reader function to read a webpage to me like a pseudo audio book and usually this will stop the audio file from playing so I can’t listen to music and a reading at the same time normally, sometimes though it won’t stop the audio file, it will just lower its volume some so I can listen to both at once. I don’t believe my phone is supposed to be able to do this and it’s an error, I would love if they added options in the settings that could make this happen on purpose.
