Carrier CliMate

Rating is really closer to 2.5 stars. Could be 3.5 if the below is addressed. I understand the major upgrades asks are unlikely happen. Can barely find support to ask questions. But basic app functionality should be addressed. This app needs a developers focus. Glad it was updated but more can be done for sure. - Improve the share app feature so others in the home easily be added- Major upgrade if possible. Give the system more ability to sense humidity, outside temperature (and dew point) so the auto function works much more effectively when deciding to cool or warm. - Add feature auto switch between dry and cool. Use the enhancement mentioned above to sense outdoor temperature. - Major upgrade if possibles. Create an interface to allow Ecobee+ thermostat to manage the system. Your system was sold to me with the ecobee+ but not interface. - I do not really use them but improve the scene function. To me They barely work.- improve the check function to provide more helpful information to the home owner. - Make it easy to reuse the scheduling feature. Right not it seems it schedule ie per device (mini split)
I had my split system installed during the pandemic last August. I paid extra for the Wi-Fi because I’m frequently away from home and come home late. The Carrier authorized installer put the app on my iPhone, showed me how it works but I never used it in 2020 due to pandemic and always home. This year (2021) split units all show offline. Called installer, told call Carrier for WiFi. First 2 calls on hold for an hour and get disconnected. 3rd time I get connected to technical assistance after 40 min. She takes all my info and says this needs to be escalated, we will get back to you. Next day I get email to call installer. Awful service. I realize I’m on my own. I started thinking about it and what changed since last year. I have three split systems, so it seems unlikely all three would fail within less than a year. I got a new iPhone and a new Comcast Xfinity router. Long story short, it’s the Comcast Xfinity router that will not allow the Carrier units to stay connected to WiFi. I connected a Netgear router to my Xfinity provided router. Connected split system to Netgear router and system has been working for over a week as it should. I even disconnected power from router to confirm it still works and it does. I hope this helps others because I was very frustrated over the last month.
I’m not one for writing reviews. In fact this may be only the second or third I’ve done. We bought 4 mini splits about a year ago. The app that Carrier used to have was basic. It worked, but it was very iOS 4 in appearance. Some of the controls were not great, but it worked. Then they updated. The app went from being basic to being garbage. They tried to update the functionality, but in turn have somehow broken connection abilities.Since the overhaul, I’ve reconnected my devices at least 30 times. That’s no small feat considering I have 4 of them, half the time I can’t get the app to find the Wi-Fi network I use, and when I do, they won’t connect half the time so I find myself going through the process 3 and 4 times to reconnect. This evening was the last straw. I came home from a trip (we lost power due to line service) for about an hour, which knocked out the Wi-Fi. I fully intended on having to repair a unit or two. Nope. ALL FOUR. So I did the thing and went through the rigamarole to reconnect them. Low and behold they all connected on the first try. The room name for one wouldn’t take, so I went back in to change it, saved it, backed out and one of the others had already severed its connection. So I did it again, 5 connections now. When I finished that one, the one who’s name wouldn’t save lost itself. I gave up. They weren’t staying paired for more than 30 seconds. That’s why I’m here. Carrier is a $40 billion company. You can make a better dang app. If you do, maybe I’ll add to this review. At the very least give me back the old one. Also there’s a lot of people I’ve found online with the same pairing issues, but no fixes from carrier I’ve read about. Go figure. Take this into consideration if you’re thinking about a Carrier product with Wi-Fi.
Horrible. You just deleted my text in the feedback window when I entered my email address below and clicked the screenshot button. Which incidentally I can’t even see my email address because I use my iPhone in dark mode. And now it is telling me email format is wrong but I can’t see the darn text to see what is wrong. So I ended up just deleting the email. Gosh I hate this app!!! Other things I can’t see also because of dark mode. Also when daylight savings time happens it screws up all the times in schedules which is really frustrating because it woke me up bc my room got too hot too early. Which is a problem with the product itself also, not just the app, as the heater just keeps getting hotter. It’s set to 62 but has gotten my room as hot as 79 because it just keeps going. And it keeps failing to submit this feedback, even after I started fresh and tried not even entering any email. So I had to give up and submit it in the App Store. So frustrating.
Just had to say thank you to the devs and carrier for updating this app to 2.0. The UI is SO much better. There is increased functionality, for example I can now “boost” mode from my phone, that was not there before. I also love the added functionality of the specific positioning angles (BOTH up/down and left/right!). If you didn’t like your experience with the previous version I would definitely give this app a try again, I think carrier and the devs put in some quality work into their update and I’m thankful because I can be even lazier and not have to get the remote for my split system. I hope they get more nice reviews for this update they deserve it.
It is so frustrating that the system often goes off-line and there’s nothing I can do about it remotely. We specifically bought the system so that we can adjust the temperature remotely especially when we land or rent the house out to others. We are left blind and ultimately need to drive all the way to our house (hours away) to check on the system. Carrier please get your act together and fix this. We have confidence in your product, but that confidence has extinguished fairly quickly. And now the app does not allow me to switch into frost prevention mode. Carrier gets a big F.
Hire a team of decent programmers to fix this app, it’s an embarrassment to your company to let this trash app tarnish an other good product. The app randomly logs me out, sometimes doesn’t respond to input, and the grammatical errors in the interface are so blatant it’s comical. Well Carrier, you dug a card out of the bottom of the barrel to find your app designer, was the “cheaper is better” non-English speaking development team worth this stain on your collar? Spend a little coin and get something worthy of your brand, shame on you.
Recently had our new mini split installed. The team that did the install was fabulous. Could not ask for a better experience. And that is where the joy kinda left the room. We settled on Carrier for overall quality and performance. Pretty sure we got that with the unit itself. However, the app, complete joke. I tried for more than an hour to get that thing connected. Nothing! Over and over I tried and finally said enough…..uncle!! I determined that the app is nothing more than a sales tool which entices some customers to buy. The fact that I could be on my way home from work, or a night out, and start cooling the room - excellent!!! Nope, nothing more than a gotcha! If you plan to buy for the ability to control from far away, choose something else.
This app does perform the basic functions of my single head split unit, but it leaves a lot to be desired. 1. Authentication - please add support for FaceID for easier login or at least stop signing me out so frequently2. Home automation - please add support for home automation integrations like Alexa, SmartThings, Google, etc3. Grammar - several screens have messages written with very poor English grammar4. Temperature control input - I find the circle temperature input hard to use, my finger is always covering the number and it can be hard to make single increments5. I also have an account for Carrier Infinity and I was disappointed that I had to create a separate account to use this app. But I’ll get over this one if you add FaceID :)
This app should embarrass whichever department requisitioned it. I am in app development and it’s obvious this was put together by a development farm - and nobody there cared about what they were doing. No thought was put into proper user interface or branding the fit with Carrier. There are typos all over the place and embarrassing error messages that never went through QC.Carrier should be ashamed that their top clients - those buying high end systems - are being exposed to this. It does not inspire confidence in Carrier products or Carrier as a company.
