Super happy with the Google photos app. Here are the features that I love: 1) virtually unlimited storage 2) “Then and now” suggestions take you through memory lane 3) Stylized photo recommendations are good 4) Face recognition and auto tagging saves a lot of bother - I really love this aspect - though I must say the tagging isn’t yet perfect. (It mixes up my two kids because they look somewhat similar) 5) Auto backup and archiving helps me manage space on my phone better. Some areas to improve: 1) Photo editing - e.g. sending a live message is easy in Galaxy Note - something similar would be beautiful 2) Sharing options - seems to automatically reduce the size of the picture being shared. Can provide options for picture sizes at all times, especially when sharing via email.

Google photos never fails to surprise me. It always seems to know what would make my life easier and come up with the suggestions to make those changes. For example, I love their level of key word search and subject sorting which is just amazing. They identify the multiple subjects my pictures contain and label them under those categories which make finding the images so much easier. So, a picture of sea or sky or boats or buildings can be located just by these subjects. I also love their suggestions for editing and improving the images. Using the Google Photos App is just like that experience that whenever you open your door you find someone standing there holding a gift for you!!! It’s a pleasure to have such an intuitive buddy.
Doesn’t work with iCloud enabled photos

Update: now the below issue is fixed. Google photos working as expected. This is a well designed app. Really. Although I am paying for Google cloud storage to store original resolution pictures and videos, but I cannot use this app because I have also enabled iCloud for Photos on iPhone. And Google Photos doesn’t work with iCloud enabled Photos. When iCloud is enabled, iPhone stores full resolution pictures in the iCloud and low resolution on iPhone. And Google Photos starts uploading low res photos to cloud. It should first fetch the full res pictures and videos from iCloud. Many other apps download original picture from iCloud. Why can’t Google Photos?

I’ve been using this for quite a while and haven’t faced any issues. As a developer I tend to judge how the apps are designed and I think this is a really well-made app. Hats off to the google team on this.The only reason I reduced one star is because the support isn’t good. I had an issue with the app on my dad’s phone where it says storage full but his google drive is actually empty and I had even changed the setting in his photos app to optimised (unlimited) mode. It’s even buggy as it shows the files have 0 byte when I used drive to sort them by size (high to low) and the highest file showed zero but that doesn’t reflect back and he keeps getting an error that the storage is full. I have make queries to google twice from his account with no response yet. I hope these issues get fixed eventually.
