The one question browsers refuse to answer, answered. • A new optional browser extension reports which tab is ACTUALLY playing sound, so web audio is named by the audible tab, not the tab in front. Safari's version ships inside the app — switch it on in Safari Settings → Extensions, nothing to install. Chrome, Edge, Brave, Vivaldi and Chromium set up from the new "Browser extension" window. When the extension confirms a tab, the sound's details say so and its attribution reads Identified. • Sounds nobody can name are now at least recognised. The app remembers unidentified sounds between launches and says "the same sound as 25 earlier times, usually from the same app" — which, in testing against two days of real captures, explained every repeating mystery on the Mac. • The matcher now works for background processes, not just system alerts, and no longer refuses to answer when macOS ships the identical sound file under two different names. • "Check for updates" in the footer opens this page. Nothing leaves your Mac: the extension talks only to the app, and the app still makes no network connections of any kind.

The app is now a proper detective. • Click any sound for its case file: the seconds around it, told in order — what you were using, who else was audible and how loudly, what notifications arrived, and where the sound fell. • When several things are audible at once, each is measured through its own tap. Silent bystanders are cleared on measurement, and the moment's suspects are ranked by their actual share of the loudness. • Sound matching grew ears: it listens to pitch as well as loudness, holds up on real recordings across sample rates and durations, and searches every sound on your Mac — the built-in alerts, system sounds like the screenshot shutter, and the sounds apps ship inside them, including Electron archives. • A match is only blamed on an app that was actually running. Identical sounds shipped by several apps are settled by which one was live, and the reasoning is written into the details in plain words. • When nothing matches, the details say how many sounds were checked and what that rules out. Smaller things • Copies installed from the App Store show an App Store link in the footer. • A tidier menu: the welcome now appears only on first launch.

The first launch now explains itself. The app has no Dock icon and opens no window, so launching it used to look like nothing had happened. It now shows a short welcome that points at the menu bar, explains the three steps, and says which permissions macOS will ask for and why. "How it works" brings it back any time. Sounds that used to be a dead end now have an answer. • A row that just said "systemsoundserverd" told you nothing — that daemon plays alerts for other apps. Those sounds are now identified two ways: the recording is matched against the alert sounds macOS ships with, so the row can name the sound, and the notification log is checked for whichever app posted a notification at that instant, so the row can name the app behind it. • Background parts of macOS are no longer presented as apps. A sound from corespeechd now reads "Siri & dictation", with an explanation of why it makes noise. • Command-line tools report the sound file they were told to play, so a script playing an alert says "Played Glass.aiff". Click any sound to see the reasoning. • A details view shows what was established, how confident the app is, and the evidence behind it. • When a sound cannot be pinned down, it lists the possible sources and why each is suspected — marked as suspicion rather than fact. • A Report button sends the whole reasoning, for when the app gets it wrong. Fixes • The app no longer appears in its own list. Playing a sound back made it detect its own audio. • Sounds that turn out to be silence are no longer listed. Processes open audio streams without playing anything, and those were showing up as pings that never happened. • Buttons throughout now carry proper labels for VoiceOver.
