The Forest’s Many Talents

Free

With this onsite-app, the Silvanum Forest Museum becomes a digital experience. The newly interpreted stations allow visitors to embark on an interactive journey through different forest worlds. The forest has always been an essential economic factor for humans. In particular, the timber and charcoal industries played a crucial role during the time of the Innerberger Gewerkschaft and iron smelting—back then, charcoal was indispensable. However, the forest is much more than just a resource: it is the green lung of our planet, home to countless species, and a place of recreation. The app also highlights the unique biodiversity of the region—from the endemic species of the Gesäuse and the UNESCO World Heritage beech forests to the challenges posed by neophytes and neozoa. Additionally, it addresses how the bark beetle is making life difficult for forest managers and which tree species have a chance of survival in times of global warming. All these topics are presented in a playful and interactive way, making the forest’s many functions and challenges tangible.
