1. A map that visualizes where you stay
The map is built on a hexagonal grid (approximately 300 meters in diameter).
Places where you actually spend time are highlighted more brightly based on the length of your stay, allowing your living space to emerge visually.
2. Focusing on “stays,” not just pass-throughs
Simply passing by a location does not significantly change the map.
By spending a certain amount of time in one place, the expansion of your everyday living space becomes visible—emphasizing meaningful presence over movement.
3. Privacy-first design
Your location data is never shared with other users, developers, or any third parties.
All visualization is done solely for your own experience.

Their Backyard is an app designed to gently encourage you to explore activities within your city that you may have thought “aren’t for me,” or that you may not have known existed at all.
For example, visiting a flower shop to decorate your home, or going out to a club at night—for some people, these are ordinary parts of daily life, their backyard. For others, they may feel unfamiliar, uncomfortable, or completely outside their world.
By becoming aware of what is everyday for others, we hope you can expand your own world just a little.
This idea is why we named the app “Their Backyard,” meaning a place that feels familiar to someone else.
As a first step toward that expansion, we believe it is important to understand where you actually spend time in the city you live in. That is why this app focuses on a single core feature: visualizing your staying space.
When moving to a new city, many people naturally explore—wondering where to go and what they might find. Their Backyard aims to help you maintain that sense of curiosity and discovery effortlessly within your everyday life.
We will continue improving the app and expanding its possibilities over time.
