Calypso Score: Sheet Music
PDF Sheet Music Made Smarter
Free · In-App Purchases
Calypso Score is a feature-rich digital sheet music app for the iPad that lets musicians manage their scores in a way that was never possible with paper. With the app’s pre-built indexes for dozens of popular jazz and pop fakebooks, you’ll never struggle with finding the right chart at a rehearsal or jam session. Calypso Score also provides unique features for navigating through multi-page scores and powerful, easy-to-use tools for organizing and annotating your entire digital library.
Compare these features with other apps to see how Calypso Score changes for the game for digital sheet music:
ORGANIZE YOUR DIGITAL SHEET MUSIC FILES
• Import sheet music PDFs directly from any app that supports file sharing, including common cloud services
• Create optimized sheet music PDFs from your paper notes with the integrated scanner
• Extract only the pages you need from a long file (e.g., just your part from a multi-part score) and assign critical metadata with an intuitive import wizard
• Annotate your songs with text, music symbols, guitar tabs, highlights, and drawings, all optimized for Apple Pencil; no additional purchase required
• Optimize the layout of your songs with a powerful built-in PDF editor; no additional purchase required
• Create your own custom songbooks or gig books for organizing your repertoire; a song can appear in more than one songbook, so you no longer need clumsy workarounds like bookmarks and layers to maintain different annotations and settings for different playing situations
• Easily share your library, including your fakebooks, songbooks, set lists, and individual songs; optionally include annotations, metadata and synchronized recordings with the PDF
• Backup files and metadata to iPad folders or any cloud service
THE transposable NEW BOB BOOK
The New Bob Book is a freely available fake book created by guitarist Bob Roetker. It allows you to transpose any of its 666 songs into any key - melody and chords, in excellent readable quality! You can download it for free.
FIND SONGS QUICKLY
• Get started with pre-built indexes for over 90 commercially published jazz and pop fakebooks*. +100 Aebersolds*
• Search and sort by page #, song title, composer, lyricist, genre, creation date, or user-assigned labels
• Search all fakebooks at once or limit your search to a single book
• Organize selected songs into set lists for quick and easy access at a gig
FREE YOUR HANDS AND EVEN YOUR FEET
• Turn pages automatically without swipes or pedals
• Minimize scrolling and scanning for repeats and jumps with optimized layouts for each turn of a page
• Manually turn pages with a Bluetooth pedal
PRACTICE MORE PRODUCTIVELY
• Attach any number of recorded music tracks to your sheet music for play-along during practice; audio files are linked to the index entry for a song, so only one copy of the track is needed even if the song appears in multiple books
• Synchronize playback of an attached audio file to follow automated page turns or start at a specific bar
• Adjust the pitch and playback speed of audio files - even if synchronized to the score
• Record your practice session; recordings are automatically synced to the score
• Avoid inefficient app-switching with built-in tools including a metronome, keyboard, and tuner
GET STARTED!
Calypso Score offers a familiar look and feel that follows best practices for iPad user experience and integration with iPad services and other apps. Detailed video tutorials (in-app and on our website) and an extensive help system will further help you get started quickly with productive management of your digital sheet music library.
*PLEASE NOTE
Calypso Score only provides the indexes for commercially published fakebooks; it does not provide the books themselves. However, Calypso Score makes it super easy to import any PDF and match it to one of the pre-built indexes.

7.3.1 09/06/2024
Our music scientists have proposed a new hypothesis: they suspect the tritone substitution could be a quantum mechanical tunnel in the circle of fifths (Of course only if the circle of fifths is not flat but round).
While we're reviewing this, we've made the following improvements to Calypso Score:
- the song creation assistant has a new button to bisect pages horizontally or vertically. Very useful for double-paged scans.
- new settings option: Each songbook has its own sorting for the song lists
- all annotations of a specific type or any type can be deleted at once
- fixed: vanishing annotations in the New Bob Book

- A new outstanding feature is the transposable New Bob Book, a fake book with 666 songs that guitarist Bob Roetker has made freely available. It allows you to transpose any of its 666 songs into any key - melody and chords, in excellent readable quality! You can download it for free.
- you can now assign multiple color labels to a song
- Improved compatibility with iOS 17: the PDF scanner now works again and is also available in song edit mode.

Merry Christmas
7.2 20/12/2023
Research into nano tonality showed that even intervals could not be infinitely small. The most minor possible interval we named after an important physicist as the Planck interval.
Separately, we developed a scanner for document management in Calypso. The scanner automatically recognizes your sheet music in the iPad camera and crops the photos accordingly. A filter then optimizes the contrast and at the same time the memory requirement. And finally, a multi-page PDF is generated from all edited photos.
Improvements:
- When importing setlists, existing setlists are no longer deleted
- New option to delete all setlists
- Improved csv import for your own fakebooks. The separator of the different fields is now recognized automatically.
- Improved page turner recognition for iOS +14
Bug fixes:
- Shéet music photographed with the camera were sometimes rotated by 90°.
- Fixed a crash when using the metronome as a count-in
- Crash when exporting an audio file with playback parameters
- Crash when exporting a song with a '/' in the song title
- Very rare crash when playing audio files
Many more bug fixes and optimizations.
7.1.1 20/06/2023

7.0 26/10/2022
Our expansion of string theory by an additional dimension has enabled us to expand and improve your beloved sheet music app with the following functions:
- in the Songbooks viewer, a button is displayed in the notes for repetitive jumps that are ended on cue. Tapping this button means that this part is not repeated anymore and the spot will advance over the jump mark.
- in the Calypso settings there is a new setting panel 'Backup and Databases'. Here you can choose whether your audio recordings and your Fakebook PDFs should be saved in a backup. In addition, Calypso can now share or export your entire database, which you can use e.g. for a quick backup to your computer or transfer your data to a second device because Calypso can import a database and use several of them. As an example one database for your gigs and another one for your teaching. Usually you still only have one database with all of your songs.
- improved behavior when zooming notes. When zoomed in, the notes can now be moved with just one finger. The same applies if a keyboard is currently visible.
- the time until the iPad goes idle can now be specified in the Calypso settings. As before, the default setting is 15 minutes.
- the crash when importing a copy-protected audio file from the music library has been fixed
- genre in the song creation workflow is now adopted
- other minor bugs have been fixed
Thank you for all your kind feedback.
6.4 04/12/2021
Thanks again for all the feedback that has helped improve Calypso and fix various minor bugs.
- prepared for the upcoming iOS version
- much improved PDF export
- adjusting annotations and markers when you change the layout of a sheet (zoom, rotate, position)
- the cloud button could only be used once if the dialog was closed by moving it downwards
- the animated layout ends by itself at the end of a song if only one page is displayed
- improved animated layout engine for some rare cases
- Arrow keys on hardware keyboards can now be used if a Bluetooth page turner is not used
- handling of large PDFs optimized
- there is a new option 'Reopen last page #' in the song settings. This is very useful for 'songs' that are used as study material so you can pick up where you left off.
- swiping to the left of an item in a list is back. You can again Edit / Delete something
- correct handling of some rotated PDFs
- some minor bugs fixed concerning the color selector of annotations
- the text-clear button (small cross at the end of a text input field) is back!
- all bar markers of a page or song can now be quickly removed
- fixed some bugs which made the reordering of song pages cumbersome
- fixed: text annotations sometimes seemed to be truncated
- fixed: handling of song info from sticky notes
- fixed a minor bug when Calypso got a file from the Files app
- fixed listener, after Calypso was terminated and reopened
- fixed some minor bugs
6.3 20/09/2021
Thank you for the feedback that has resulted in various improvements and bug fixes:
- Starting a search by tapping the little glass is a bit awkward. You can now swipe down the title area at the top of any list.
- Again, the text scanner has been improved
- You can now manually improve the sheet layout after Calypso has created the automatic layout
- Fast song creation is back. Quickly create a song from all the pages of a PDF file. The song title set after the name of the PDF file
- Fixed a crash when Calypso was started by opening an importable file. If Calypso was already running, it did not crash.
- Fixed: Annotations could sometimes disappear
- Various improvements to the context menu emulation for iOS 9 - iOS 12
- Improved context menu options regarding setlists
- The import of fake book setlists has been corrected
6.2 13/03/2021
The new way of creating a song has been very popular. With this version, it is again significantly improved. So it no longer happens that Calypso suggests the 2nd trombone as a composer after scanning the sheet music ;-) It is now also possible to assign a recognized text to the song title, composer/lyricist, or genre more intuitively. Tempo specifications are also partially recognized.
Landscape format notes are recognized better and the display/layout of some PDFs is improved.
The new What's-New hints and tips now use short videos instead of gifs, which makes them run more smoothly.
Together with the many other, smaller improvements, a version jump to 6.1 is definitely justified :-)
Thank you for the extensive feedback on the last version!
6.1 31/01/2021
This is a fantastic release and worthy of a new main version number.
When using a new workflow to generate a song from a PDF, Calypso will now analyze your music score. It scans the music sheets and rotates and zooms them to best fit the screen of your iPad. Text is also recognized that can be assigned to the song title or the composer or lyricist.
But that's not all: for each list entry, a long tap opens a context menu that offers you options for editing, sharing, deleting, and more. Much of this was previously possible but is now centrally accessible. In addition, new possibilities for printing and sharing have opened up, in particular, the use of AirDrop is now possible.
And last but not least, new users are better trained in the most important functions than before. All other users are presented with the new functions via animated images.
Thank you for all your contributions.
Merry Christmas to You.
6.0 22/12/2020
Thanks to all users who contributed their feedback to the improvements.
- you can now access some tutorial videos via the help center, which will certainly not only inspire new users.
- new option 'Export PDFs with Annotations', so you are now able to switch them OFF
- new option for editing a song title: "Initial capital letters ..." You can now specify, whether all words should start with capital letters (like in the English spoken world) or only the first word of a sentence (like in German)
- some rare stability issues have been fixed
- some minor bugs concerning the PDF export, a vanishing toolbar, and the page-turner fixed
5.6 27/07/2020
This time, Calypso got some minor bugs fixed, which were kindly reported from some Calypso users (thank you):
- fixed: some Bluetooth page-turners have the capability to force the appearance of the virtual keyboard. This did confuse Calypso which set the page-turner to the disconnected state.
- fixed: empty text annotations couldn't be moved around without disappearing
- fixed: in teaching mode, you were not able to add text annotations.
- fixed: the weird sorting of the song- and fake books if they had no stars assigned
