BioAtlas - Wild Guide
Identify and explore nature
Free · In-App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Photograph plants, animals, insects, or fungi, compare likely matches, and continue with approachable field-guide facts.
BioAtlas is a photo identification tool, wildlife guide, and species encyclopedia for observing and learning about nature. When you encounter an unfamiliar plant, flower, tree, animal, bird, insect, spider, mushroom, or other fungus, begin with a photo, review possible identification candidates, compare visible clues, and continue into structured species information.
Made for everyday nature observation
Use BioAtlas while hiking, camping, traveling, visiting a park, botanical garden, zoo, schoolyard, garden, or balcony. It supports nature lovers, students, families, gardeners, photographers, teachers, and outdoor explorers.
Identify plants and animals from a photo
Take a new picture with the camera or choose an existing image from your photo library. Explore possible results for plant identification, animal identification, flower identification, tree identification, bird identification, insect identification, and mushroom identification. A clear image with the subject in focus can make it easier to compare leaves, flowers, fruit, feathers, body color, markings, shape, and other visible traits.
Compare more than one possible match
Many species resemble one another, so BioAtlas presents candidates rather than treating one name as an unquestionable conclusion. Candidate cards include common names, scientific names, images, and useful context. Compare them with the location, habitat, season, size, color, and form you observed, then open the closest candidate to review more field-guide details.
Explore plants, animals, and fungi
Investigate wildflowers, garden plants, houseplants, trees, mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects, spiders, mushrooms, and other fungi. Move from visible traits to names, taxonomy, distribution, and habitat. BioAtlas is for discovery and education; it does not diagnose plant disease, determine medicinal use or edibility, or establish whether a mushroom is safe to eat.
Readable facts and deeper taxonomy
Move from common and scientific names to taxonomy, appearance, habitat, distribution, behavior, diet, and conservation information. Structured cards highlight key details; deeper classification covers kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species.
Search by name and browse natural categories
You do not need a photo to explore. Search by common name, scientific name, or keyword, or browse animals, plants, birds, insects, fish, reptiles, amphibians, fungi, and other groups. Daily species and themed collections can introduce life you would not have known to search for. Search and category browsing make BioAtlas useful as both an identification tool and a pocket nature encyclopedia.
Favorites, history, and a nature log
Save species, revisit identification history, and organize discoveries from hikes, gardens, classes, and neighborhood walks. Build a personal nature log, then create and share species cards with images, names, and key facts.
Natural Mentor and species quizzes
After identifying a plant or animal, ask Natural Mentor about traits, taxonomy, habitat, and related topics. Review species through daily content and short quizzes. BioAtlas includes a searchable local catalog; some images, photo identification, mentor, and AI learning features require internet and may have daily allowances. VIP offers higher allowances and removes ads; exact benefits and local prices appear in the in-app store.
Privacy and safety
BioAtlas provides privacy settings and clear camera and photo-library permission prompts. Data is handled according to the in-app privacy policy and your choices. Results are for nature observation, education, and reference—not professional identification, medical advice, agricultural or horticultural diagnosis, or food-safety guidance. Keep a safe distance from wildlife and follow local rules.
