Review of Spark Desktop - is it for you?
SteffanoGaerdydd
I have used Spark 1,2 and recently switched to Spark 3 (Desktop edition!) and even paid for it this time! Spark 3 (Desktop edition) is functionally the same but works differently. Unlike 1 and 2 this time there is a big design change in that it tries hard to make you check your emails less often. And it works or at least it has for me. Since using this version emails have been downgraded in importance in my workflow, which is actually a great thing. No longer do I check my emails when I am looking for something to do as the 'home screen' basically tells me that there isn't any interesting stuff in there straight away. Now if you are a communicator and like to bounce emails around as part of your job of keeping things moving along smoothly, then you might hate this design change. I recently heard Mike from the Cortex Podcast give this version of Spark an earful for getting in the way between him and his email and this I can understand. If you want to chat via email then this design is going to frustrate you. The design here is to restrict this sort of behaviour. If email is the activity centre of your day to day job then this Desktop version is not for you. Maybe stick to Spark 2. However, if you want to demote email to a secondary role in your job then this version works surprisingly well, it has made much more of a difference then I thought (hence this long review!). Give it a try. You will know pretty much straightaway if it suits you.

I've used Spark for years. It's been great. I have had some performance issues and put it down to my aging iMac (7 years). So when Spark 3 came out (currently only available from the developer's website) I downloaded it, hoping it might resolve my persformance issues. It did! But Spark 3 is not Spark 2 but better. Spark 3 is a different beast. Spark 3 wants to change the way you use email. (Which I don't like, but I'm sure many others might prefer.) My biggest gripe is that Spark 3 does not have feature parity with Spark 2. At the time of Spark 3's launch (Oct 22) Spark 3 has no integrations (I use Things) nor does it have Print. Now I know we shouldn't be printing emails, but the Print dialogue is how you get to Save As PDF, and for legal reasons I have to retain some emails - the safest way to do so is to PDF them. For mw, this was a dealbreaker. I went back to Spark 2, but the performance issues frustrated me further after seeing how quick Spark 3 works. I've switched to Edison Mail, which gives me everything I need and allows me to use an email programme how I like to use an email programme. If you're looking for a good solid email app, I would recommend downloading this version of Spark and testing it's performance on your machine. It does everything you need it to. Sadly, Spark 3 doesn't.

Hello! Thank you for sharing such detailed and valuable feedback with our team. We apologize for the current inconveniences that you might experience because of the lack of features in the current version of Spark Desktop. Please rest assured that Spark Desktop development is far from over: we aim to reach feature parity with the old Spark across all devices, and many notable updates are just around the corner! You are welcome to check out this page to learn about upcoming features:https://sparkmailapp.com/help/general/upcoming-features-in-spark-3Glad to mention that we have already implemented the ability to Print and Save the email as a PDF file. As for the integrations, we are still working on adding them, and we`d love to add your vote to the request for Things to be able to notify you once the feature is ready for users. Please contact us directly at support@sparkmailapp.com, so we could save your email in our app wishlist. Thank you!Elmira
Would be 5 Stars if not for a Couple of Issues

I've been using Spark for a couple of weeks now. The UI design is great and I would defintely recommend Spark for anyone looking for an email platform to replace Apple's standard email app. I've got Spark set up on my Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPad & work PC. The perks of Spark is that it's great for cross-platform devices. However, I've noticed a couple of issues. If I were to draft an email on my phone and come back to it on my Mac, there isn't a notification in the draft folder letting me know I have a drafted email waiting to be sent. But if I were to draft an email on my phone and come back to it on my phone, there is a notification. A little strange and I've tried to play around in the settings but I can't find the option anywhere. Also, Spark doesn't show notifications in your spam folder. I've missed a couple of important emails that have ended up in my spam folder and I haven't realised they were in there until I checked. I suppose the workaround is to check your spam folder and draft folder often as possible. But it would be nice for Spark to add these little touches that are available on every other email platform available on the market.
