Reddit is similarly formatted to other social media, with a couple of important changes. Firstly, and possibly the best part, is the custom feeds, which aren’t littered with rubbish posts of thousands of things you didn’t ask to see, or uncontrollable ads, instead it shows posts from subreddits you subscribed to. This allows each feed to be tailored to the individual.Next are the subreddits themselves. There are tons, and it’s easy to find one that interests you, which is fantastic. On reddit you can easily find like minded individuals for just about anything, and the subreddits are welcoming too. Thirdly, the format of reddit is one that allows interests to thrive, from memers to academics to lovers of the wholesome there is a plethora of thriving communities to chose from, without the worry of shame or hateful comments from the others.And lastly, something I’ve seen mentioned many times, the absence of care for followers or upvotes. If you wish to farm for upvotes and cultivate an account with hundreds of thousands of upvotes, it is entirely possible and quite fun, but on the other hand lurking and lacking followers or upvotes isn’t shamed whatsoever. Overall, a well made app which benefits from a community without overwhelming toxicity.

Reddit as a concept and general use is great and it’s a helpful site - but the app has so many functionality issues that need tackling. It refreshes all the time whenever it feels like it and you can’t go off and do something else like search things related to your Reddit browsing or post for long or it will refresh and you’ll lose it. Composing and editing posts always doesn’t work correctly in the app. You can’t make posts or replies past a certain length or it becomes impossible to proofread and edit as you’re limited to like the first 7 or so lines of text. Even if you use an external app to compose your text like notes, what you copy and paste in is then not able to be amended and you can’t see all the text that you paste. THEN if you do manage to compose and post, the actual formatting you’re left with is very often different to what the post/ text preview showed: for example when composing lists and using bullet points or hashes. Parts of text get randomly mashed together and it doesn’t present or read correctly. Just so many issues with text and formatting. Size of things on screen and what you can actually see when you click onto it is also annoying and random - the UI just seems clunky and broken and in need of an overhaul. Please sort it out and save this important app.

I’ve used Reddit on and off for a while, following three subs specifically related to a niche interest of mine. Using this app, I used to be able to browse the best of all three from the Home tab, but recently it’s been filled with posts from subs I don’t follow as “suggestions”, such as things others have interacted with or posts deemed popular on Reddit. These posts are becoming more and more frequent. Isn’t that what the Popular tab is for? If I wanted to browse Reddit like a Facebook feed I’d either subscribe to more subs, or I’d use the Popular tab. Unfortunately, it’s driving me away, and I’m using the platform less and less - especially since using the browser version of Reddit on my phone is an even worse experience and effectively forces you to use the app. As a side note, people need to realise this is a place to review the app functionality and experience, not the platform itself or to air grievances about the site moderation, or similar. Please, App Store, moderate these reviews more effectively so that genuine feedback about the app experience doesn’t get lost in the chaos and goes unseen by the development team.
