Expensive but like the cameras,it’s worth every penny
Micky Smithson
As the owner of more cameras than I should own (I’m hope the wife doesn’t read this), and a couple with the red dot, I was interested to see how good this app is. I suspected it would just be a filters app, I was wrong. It’s a complete camera app, that works even with the camera button on the 16 pro max.The quality of the shots it created definitely have that “Leica look”. You get a free two week trial of the app and it’s worth using it to see if the app is for you. Then Leica announced their new iPhone grip which included a year subscription to the app. (For the cost of the grip it should be a lifetime licence).Overall I love it and would recommend it
Start Up Behaviour
P Bux
The start up behaviour/bug that has been there for well over 6 months (possibly longer) is still there. This is despite Leica acknowledging the behaviour in an email with me. The most recent 1.11 update resolved nothing. The bug basically prevents the first and sometimes second capture when opening the app. The capture itself to the grid is ridiculously slow too and sometimes doesn’t refresh until additional images are taken (sometimes they don’t appear at all). I have the software for a year through the grip purchase (and hardly use it as it’s so unreliable). I will also likely sell the Lux grip. I thought this would be a nice addition for when I don’t have my camera, but it’s terrible. the stock phone app works flawlessly. I also don’t understand how people are having similar issues and still give 4*, completely beyond comprehension. It’s broken and Leica know it, yet Leica don’t seem to care if it works or not as long as the fan boys pay up…
Nice, but very buggy and obscenely expensive.

When the app works, it’s very pleasing to use indeed, and the “filters” are fabulous! Unfortunately, there are issues with the app — the worst offenders being the inconsistent application of the aperture mode, and the other being a strange bug where an overlay appears on an image in camera roll once it has been adjusted in the Leica Lux app. Once it’s happened, it effectively ruins your nice image. Finally, £70 a year feels significantly overpriced for what is effectively a camera filter app. To put that in perspective, I pay roughly the same for a Lightroom CC subscription, which includes a professional editing suite and 1TB of cloud storage. If the app were priced more competitively—around £25-£30 a year—I (and likely many others) would subscribe in a heartbeat. As it stands, it’s just not justifiable. What a shame.
Great app. Too Expensive
Camboychan
I’m a long time Leica shooter. The colour science in the app is very close to my Q and M10. I have settled on the free version, using it a a pseudo Q with 28 mm, Leica STD and wide open. It’s very close. But it misses focus a lot so capture the scene. Jump into edit and re select focus. I would happily pay a one off lifetime fee for the other lenses which are pure digital crops except for the zoom. But the price is too high as a rolling monthly or annual subscription. Please, please consider it Leica. You are onto something great here and you’d make more money by selling more subs at a lower price or certainly by a one off fee. Read the reviews, watch the video reviews, they all say the same. Keep up the good work.
- Improved film grain rendering
- Fixed an issue where the wrong EV value could be displayed on launch on the latest versions of iOS
