This unequivocally overrides any other reading/book tracking app around. Those of you still using anything else (GoodReads) are just bringing yourselves great disappointment. I beg you delete all but Fable. Not only does this have plenty of features (reviews, style matching, stars, community comparison, spice level, content warnings, spoiler blurring, book clubs, personalised layout/theme/lists….) & way to connect with fellow avid readers - based off your preference or open - it’s also aesthetically pleasing & feels unique. That I have not found elsewhere (GoodReads I’m still looking at you). Also, they’re constantly updating & revamping different areas to ensure improvements 24/7. Glitches or features lacking that existed when I first downloaded (Jan24), are just no longer a thing now. The only thing I’m still painfully & patiently waiting for is a dark mode option, I have absolutely zero complaints otherwise. Anyone who’s actually read this far I’d just like to point out I’ve actually only ever used this app for cataloguing, reviewing & book clubs - I can’t speak on what the e-books are like to read as I’m a physical or kindle reader.
Great to have another app for readers but…

It’s lovely to have a new app for readers, the app offers in depth analytics of what you’ve read through the year and you can get some insights into your own reading tastes. However, there are a couple of things that prevent me from fully switching over and using Fable more. My issues are related to the UX/UI. The app is very dark, there is no light mode and the black background with white text is very hard on the eyes. I have to strain to use it which makes me want to click off the app as quickly as possible. The second bit is around how difficult it is to update reading status of my current reading list. Too much focus on the “I read today streak” which I personally don’t care for as it’s one of those things that makes reading into a competitive sport and takes away from the enjoyment. I would prefer if there was option to disable it and instead to have a quick and easy flow to changing the status of the books I am reading. This app has a lot of potential but it’s not pleasant to use. It’s too busy, too much going on. Too distracting from what it’s supposed to promote: reading.

Thanks for the incredibly thoughtful review! Our team is always working on improving the app and user experience, so feedback like this is really important. Just so you know, you can actually switch from dark mode to light mode in the Display Themes preferences section of the app settings!
Some improvements needed

I love the idea of the app and I‘ll probably keep using it but some features really need improvement: 1. I‘ve been getting random notifications about ebooks being available and if I accidentally click on them, the app becomes unusable for minutes (!) while it tries to download the book (not even restarting the app helps) 2. in-app notifications often don‘t go away even after clicking on them 3. it takes too many steps to update the reading progress on a book: clicking the menu button, clicking update progress, having to delete the existing progress before entering a new number because that doesn’t happen automatically. Other reading trackers make that so much more user-friendly (1-2 clicks rather than 4) 4. you can‘t switch between different editions of books like you can on GoodReads or StoryGraphOn the plus side: I really do love the book club feature and the focus on community on fable. I also really like the book review flow which allows you to pick from a pre-configured list of categories what applied to the book
Love the app but there’s a few glitches!

Love the look of the app, the various ‘profile’ aspects which look really aesthetically pleasing compared to other reading apps which allows you to see and compare your reading in a fun way to those in your friends list. Also love the way the app suggests similarities between you and others! Only negative which I think the app team need to sort asap - 1. The ‘track progress’ feature is glitchy! I have to click on the ‘percentage’ icon lots and it doesn’t always select for me to then type the increased percentage as I’m reading. Very clunky and annoying confiding I like to do this every time I read. Please sort !! 2. You’re able to link to google reads and import previous good reads reviews but what about after this? It doesn’t seem to then automatically sync ongoing reviews from good reads. So I’m having to copy and paste. Would be better if this is automated then I can add any additional review aspects to Fable if I wish. Thanks Fable - I’m nearly converted fully
