I don’t have a problem with politics but this app has certain agendas. I would like it if it were much more accessible and not to alienate a huge audience. Introducing classical and contemporary books to balance out the content would be a good idea. I like the app and I’m hooked on the books I’ve got in my library and it’s introduced me to some great literature but I think it needs a bit of refining. I’m also not an American so it’s kind of strange to read about black struggles and what not when I’m not interested in it. Also another thing, the store could use some improving, sometimes books are there that I have already read and it would make better sense to get rid of this and some of the features. It’s a very casual game not Fortnite so I don’t understand why it needs such a feature. Make all the books available for a certain price, the random weekly drop makes no sense for this kind of game. Otherwise this game would be excellent

This is a fun game especially if you are a bit of a bookworm. You can do the puzzles on books you read ages ago or others of which you may want a flavour and then read. I have been hooked. But my big bug bear (and hence not the 5 stars) is that you have to wait for new bookshelves on Monday and Thursday and they are not often with books of interest or they have books you have already completed in the game. Why not allow people to get books from the catalog if they have the ink? This is frustrating and will end up me dropping from the game as waiting for two specific days and then not getting a good choice is off putting. Would be good if developers were to fix this.

Dear Reader is a great casual game, it involves a bunch of puzzles revolving around books that are in the public domain, so you get all your old literature classics like Oliver Twist or Dorian Gray. It introduced me to some wonderful books, and it has a nice learning curve. You can choose what pace the game runs at, you get daily challenges, some involving a random book chapter, while others are specific goals you must complete using books you own. It’s a great casual game, for those who don’t really like gaming. I, as someone who loves games, use it as a bedtime related puzzle game. The game has a lot of progression and variety, and I’d happily recommend it. Only slight issue is that some of the daily tasks include things like “read a chapter with editors commentary” or “read a chapter that’s under 6 pages” and it’s hard to know how many pages are in a chapter, or which chapters have commentary. So they can be inconvenient as it feels like they’re more luck than skill based. Would highly recommend, it’s one of my favourite games on Apple Arcade

I’m not one to review often but I honestly am considering keeping my Arcade subscription just for this game so thought I’d take the time!Such a great variety of books, in many different genres and styles mean it never feels boring. As someone who used to read a lot and now feel like can never find the time or should be doing something more useful with my time... being able to play excerpts of books I’ve been meaning to read for years has been a great way to get back into it! And it’s been good to get a taste of classics people tell you to read so see if the style is actually something you’d enjoy or not...I like the goals and library of rare books you can unlock, and new shelves of books rotate round every few days which keeps things feeling fresh.Really worth a go as I’ve found it to be a great pick up and play game for when I have some spare time.
