I’ll admit that I’m smitten by Day One. Started on holiday as a diary experiment bourne from the guilt I’ve felt in no longer keeping a daily record of life’s events. I love the clean and easy presentation . Editing is a synch, adding pictures couldn’t be easier. The geolocations and other automatic features take the legwork out of adding the small minutae of the day such as what the weather was doing. I paid the annual subscription model because I wanted the extra functionality. Some people have complained in other reviews that updated versions kind of shoe-horned early adopters into either keeping these features of going into a simpler format. Developers need to eat and have a roof over their heads. As a newcomer, I don’t have a problem with subscriptions providing the extra bells and whistles provide an overall satisfying experience. I love the way that the app updates across all my devices, instantaneously over a wifi network.Day One has been such a delight to use, that it has inspired me to start a second journal of dreams (Something I used to do in a separate book) I understand extra features are in development, including the possibility of adding audio clips. I don’t often feel compelled to write software reviews, however as this app has given such pleasure and encouraged journal productivity, I feel that credit given where it’s due should be given to the Day One developers, they’ve really crafted an excellent app.

Well, I guess I use Mail and Safari as well, but DayOne has been my go to app every day since 2012. I have been keeping a paper diary for 35 years before switching to DayOne and predictably was very reluctant to move to a digital diary but DayOne made it a no brainer once I started thinking about digitising my old diaries anyway. The added features like location, tags, search, multiple diaries and not least IFTTT integration make it so much more useful than my paper diaries which I rarely looked back on. Now I can check where I have been when, what I was doing, someone’s name I met years ago, a restaurant I visited, books I read and TV I watched, all searchable and findable. Sure, I miss going ot to buy a new paper diary but I don’t miss storing old books and never being able to find old entires. I guess I got with the times. I am extremely happy to pay for my subscription, even though I don’t care about many of the new features, but I spent more on new journal books and ink in the past and it is essential to me to support a brilliant and responsive developer making one of the most useful apps out there. One criticism: While I love the book layouts, I would really like a better interface for editing. Maybe even a variety of export styles for the PDF export so I can print hardcopies myself. Sometimes a real book is still nice :-)

I've been doing a journal for a couple of years now. It began as an experiement and a novelty. After a bit of time it started to feel a bit like hard work, having to make the time to keep it going. However after a couple of years I have found it to be a fantastic tool for decluttering my mind. I use it to record my daily thoughts and activities. It is a helpful reminder looking back, about what happened and what I was thinking about it at the time. In its self this is useful because sometimes I find that my thinking has changed over time. I find that putting my thoughts into words gives me a chance to take a step back and observe my own thinking from a more objective perspective. I have found it invaluable in developing myself as a person. I also find it helpful to get into the habit of noting what I have to be grateful for. Life is not perfect and it's easy to become preoccupied with the imperfections, which can leave us feeling down and frustrated. By noting the things I have to be grateful for, I feel better about myself and my life. My journal helps me approach life with greater positivity, and gives me helpful insights into my thoughts and feelings. It no longer feels hard work. It has now become like a valued friend helping me live the best life I can.

I have subscribed to DayOne for 14 years. I started writing my diary when I retired and I have kept writing down all the good things in my life since then. The scope of the diary has expanded with the DayOne App, at first it was only a written account which could be stored and since then it includes photos, the weather, location and so much more. So my diary is now my holiday journal, records business dates I need to remember, books I have read and has the added convenience of having everything is in one place. My friends even use my record to check whether they have read a book and when things happened. Search facilities make it easy to recall The point of all this, is to say how grateful I am to DayOne which has made all this possible. Its so easy to use even for an 80 year old, it syncs across all my devices and on the rare occasions when I need support helpful DayOne staff respond very promptly. it is a pure delight to read of events which have happened and I might have forgotten years ago. My diary on DayOne is one of my post precious things - it helps me to remember good times. It has all only been possible because ofthe excellence and reliability of DayOne
