Footpath Route Planner
Ratings & Reviews
I use this for walks with my dog. As she’s getting on, and I let her decide where to go, it’s sometimes just around the block, so I’d never switch on a ‘tracker’ type app. However, when she decides to take me on a longer walk, around our local country park, or even on the streets of our large village, it’s useful to put our route into this app afterwards and see how far we’ve walked. It’s also useful if I visit somewhere and a ‘wander’ turns into a longer than planned walk.
Excellent app that is suitable for use on local hills or in more challenging coastal and mountain hikes.I still carry carry a Papper map with me, but Footpath has not led me wrong over the years I have been using it.I particularly like the different map formats that are available and that you can use its off-line feature.I highly recommend it.
Great with AWU. Features that make it stand out:1. Can be used concurrently with stock app2. Can have map in background (no turn by turn) with stock app in ultra low power mode, meaning you can get ~50 hrs of gps and hr tracking while also being supported by the map. Excellent for way marked ultras3. Draw routes with snap to path.
I compared Apple Maps with this app and its route making is perfection. It had unlimited length and points you can place down that I can make a route to Alaska! So I would highly recommend choosing Footpath Route Planning over Apple Maps.
This is exactly what I needed having struggled and failed to do something like this on google maps. You can really easily plot walks, just sketch out roughly where you want to go and the app will do the rest for you, giving you a saveable route. Very user friendly
It combines OS maps with satellite, real-time weather, 2D and more! I discovered it when I was doing ten tours and have been using it religiously since. Genuinely the best map app that I’ve found out there, I recommend it to everyone that I meet that’s walking or biking or planning to get into it 🏃♀️
This is the best app around for planning routes for running and walking. I’ve used it all around the U.K. to plan running routes on road and finding new trails to run along. I’ve also used it in Denmark and France and it’s been brilliant for finding new places to run.
I’m a bit of a technophobe but finding this easy to use. Set up a route on the app on my iPad but can do the phone as well. Just be careful because sometimes the route will go the long way round after you tap a point along the path. Id like a bit more detail like os map level detail but it’s fine. Best thing was out in the real world using it. Sent turn by turn directions to both my watch and phone. More details on the phone screen but I could have managed using just my watch. Confident I won’t get lost now.
Since I’ve used this app few yrs now I’ve explored unknown areas to me. Walked extra miles just because I could see where I was at all times and felt safe. On other days I’ve planned my routes either circling around start to finish or start to a bus route home or train. No matter where I’ve been I’ve found this app to be my best guide. Sometimes especially if walking in wooded area it will want to take you a longer route or a safer route. The notes of altitude are a god send if you want to avoid tough walks up hill. Being able to view your journey via satellite you can pick out nice areas to stop and rest a while Overall this app is my lifeline a tool to help anxiety and give me freedom to get out and relax. Used along side google maps for the bus stops and timetables a day week etc walking can be achieved with piece of mind. Just remember to take a back up battery if on a long journey as your phone is your map you’re tickets your money and camera and boy are there so many beautiful things to see along those paths you didn’t know existed. Enjoy your freedom from the stresses of the world and get out there.
I have been using Footpath for a while now, and quickly upgraded to the Elite version to take advantage of the better mapping and other features that this offers. I have not come across anything nearly as good as Footpath for route planning - the ease of plotting a route is incredible and the developers seem to have squeezed in so many features in a deceptively minimalist interface. For many months now Footpath has stood me in good stead on numerous UK walks. One of my few criticisms was that the mapping options on offer, whilst very clear, lacked some of the detail that Ordnance Survey maps have. The latest update, however, has added full OS mapping, which for me makes this the perfect walking app. The inclusion of the OS mapping, at a lower price than that charged by Ordnance Survey makes the Elite subscription an essential purchase.I have tried and deleted a few other app before discovering Footpath. I kept just one of them because I wanted OS map features. Now that Footpath has this covered I will be cancelling my subscription to the other app. Thanks to the developers for continuing to improve and enhance Footpath
