  • Wonderful, but flawed

Pixelmator Pro is absolutely what I would recommend if you wanted to develop professionally. However, unless you plan on using it very often, I would recommend you opt for Pixelmator Classic.Pro has a lot of improvements, including but not limited to:- The layer and tool panel are far superior to Photoshop! They are both well-designed and extremely clear, letting the focus lay on the image itself.- Layers can be filtered by kind or tag, and displayed visually, making it stupidly easy to scan for them in a complicated item;- Tools are easy to use and clearly indicated, with beautiful panels making it easy to use. However, if I can nitpick, there is a lot to improve that makes it hard to warrant the price, especially given that some features are present in Classic:- While the color adjustments and effects panels are wonderful, it is unclear how, as in Classic, you create a raw pane to have them apply to underlying layers rather than a single layer;- This same set of panels leaves a lot to be desired for adding effects - in classic, effects were visually shown, but now you must hit "Add" and scan for the name alone; And, finally, if I can be really nitpicky:- ML is hard to cancel; - I do wish the color picker allowed for greater sample size;- Replace Color (and all color adjustments!) can only be added once;- The "export for web" icon is a bit odd? It has some- A large clipboard lags out the "clipboard" item when adding a new image, as it demands to show me the image before it lets me select it;- The "Style" menu covers shapes, but not text color.

  • As everyone else says... very disspointing

Several years ago I moved across from a PC to a Mac and could not justify the expense of Adobe Photoshop so read the reviews of Pixelmator and decided to spend the relatively small sum of money to try it. I was extremely impressed. It was fast, had all the basic features I needed and always updating with new features and improvements. The only thing I personally did not like is floating windows which always get in the way for me. Race forward to 2018 and I decided to take the plunge with Pixelmator Pro. How could I go wrong? The company had always delivered. I was very wrong. I have a Macbook Pro wuth an 2.8Ghz i7 Processor, 8GB of RAM and 512GB SSD yet I do even a basic 2 layer low resolution graphic and then try and move an object and I might as well go and make a cup of tea and possibly drink it before the app unfreezes and completes the job. I have tried it with various images and always the same. If you full size the window the whole thing freezes and does not unfreeze unless you close the app. This has been ongoing for months. I have no other apps open when this occurs. When I restart the app it looks promising but then it returns to a very sluggish experience. I have the latest version v1.2.1. Total waste of money and my time. Such a shame.

  • Fansatic, Easy to use

    Gadgetman !

I've been looking for software to do more than basic photo editing for a while since purchasing my 2019 iMac with a 3GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5 Processor, 16GB of Ram and 1TB SSD. I have tried several others like Affinity Photo but found Pixelmator Pro easier to use, others may have more features and offer closer to photoshop experience but for someone with not much experience beyond the basic photo editing, Pixelmator Pro gives me more than enough tools to let me acheive great results. With regular updates and more new features being added on a regular basis I would highly recommend Pixelmator Pro to anyone who is new to photo editng, allthough I've only been using it for a few weeks and I have personly not experienced any freezing of the app what's so ever unlike some comments made in other peoples reviews and I feel it was money well spent.

  • My Go-To Tool for All Image Tasks

    Magnetic Apprentice

Those of us old enough to remember Macromedia Fireworks will know that that was a breakthrough graphics application for working with mixed bitmap and vector images. Sadly, Adobe bought Fireworks and discontinued it (after making it extremely expensive to own as part of Creative Suite). I can't help feeling that the Pixelmator team were also fans of that long-lost app, because Pixelmator Pro has resurrected everything that was good about Fireworks and taken it to the next level! I LOVE this application (and I'm probably using only a fraction of its power). I've even had a feature request answered in an update :-) Thanks to everyone involved in creating this next-gen stellar application (and, please, don't sell it to Adobe!)

My major project right now is scanning old 35mm negatives and slides, some are 50 years old and have the expected various defects such as scratches, colour fading and so on... I don't let the scanner software do any corrections, external image editors are far better at that! The user interface on Pixelmator Pro is clean and quite easy to drive, makes the manual correction I need to do quite easy. The "ML" (Machine learning) automatic algorithms for colour balance and exposure are a great way of getting close to where things need to be quickly. An additional bonus for me is the ability to then pick up the scanned image (I use TIFF format for scanning) I can quietly then use my iPad and Pixelmator photo for manually editing blemishes, scratches etc... All very good indeed!

  • Awesome!

Having had to use Photoshop and other outdated, overpriced Adobe bloatware for many years, Pixelmator Pro is truly a breath of fresh air! OK it hasn't got the range of gimmicky utilities that Photoshop has, but it has all the essentials and more, it is very easy to learn, it is extremely fast to boot up and use (especially on an M1). I am currently weaning myself off Adobe’s tired software and onto more modern and enjoyable to use apps such as this one, as well as, for example, Affinity apps. Not quite found a viable Lightroom alternative yet and still stuck with Dreamweaver despite its bugs, quirks and dreadful interface, but getting very near to ditching my expensive Adobe addiction! Pixelmator Pro has thankfully been very instrumental in that process.

  • Using for Chico Chugg character whose in books and on TV.

I've used the old photoshop for the last 8 years until my laptop broke, when it was mended photoshop had gone from the hard drive. Bought new photoshop and it was terrible, had to sign up for a year, cost over £30 a month! Was so difficult to use cancelled early having to still pay for an extra 3 months! Googled an alternative for photoshop and found Pixelmator Pro APP. It sounded great and it's even better than I could have dreamed! I'm wizzing around doing work in half the time with the more logical easier systems and getting the best results I've ever had! Thanks for saving my lifePixelmator Pro wish I'd known about you years ago!! Price is unbelievable too! What value! Thanks Janet Roberts

  • Excellent

I use this tool nearly every day and find it excellent. I have never used any version of Adobe Photoshop so only have other image editing products to compare it with - it is far, far better. The support and product enhancement features is consistently good and once you have a licence you get all the updates. I have very few problems with the app crashing - usually because it has run out of memory as I have too many tabs open each with lots of layers. I use a memory management tool so can see this is an issue - but of my own making, not the app. I've been using this product since release and recommend it v. highly.

  • Amazing, fast, feels right at home on Mac - just one thing

    Viggy2

I love to design graphics and simple logos, as well as occasionally editing conventional photos taken. Most tools are really good, built-in items like gradients and shapes are really good quality and in some cases better implemented than Photoshop. However, one area that is quite majorly lacking is the text tool. I love to apply gradients and shadows to my text, and annoyingly this can only be done by converting the text to a line of shapes, which for some characters (eg, 4) actually removes some parts of the character. It'd be amazing and would probably make this app worth 5 stars if text tools could be improved.Other than that, great app, and very reasonably priced compared to the Adobe suite - I don't regret a penny spent.

Thanks for the review. We'd definitely love to work on the Type tool a bit more in the future. We'll keep your feedack in mind for when that time comes!

  • Amazing photo editor

This is a great software. It is so affordable compared to other famous photo manipulation tools.I started on Photoshop but it was so complicated, then after a research I was recommended to try Pixelmator Pro and oh my god! It is so easy and so user friendly. You can do anything you would in Photoshop. The repair tool can do impressive things nothing like the photoshop one .. just one click and the imperfection is gone .. in photoshop this is like 3-4 clicks twicking...I am still learning how to create a creative art on this tool. Thou, there are minor things missing like adjustment layers
