A brilliant adaptation (appdaption?) of one of the best word games. If you know the original, it will all be really intuitive. If you don’t, the tutorial is great - my 9 year old got it in no time.It has a really compelling progression system with unlocks of new modes/ characters and words. Online play is flawless - with a seemingly really nice community who so far haven’t gotten angry at some of my whackier 5 word clues. Maybe just let cge do all app conversions of board games??

It looks good but there are too many problems.Response time by other players is appalling, for each move you make you need to wait for three others to respond a simple game can take 24 hours. There are too many cultural differences between English speakers across the globe so that a clue that might make sense to a person in the UK will mean nothing to someone in South Africa. Would be better if we could play by country, which also avoids the issue of time zones and potential players being asleep. Nasty comments from other players about chosen words doesn’t help either.

I love this and have been playing pretty much non stop since I downloaded it. So refreshing to just pay one price and not keep getting prompted to pay for add ons like in so many other games.Only a couple of minor issues; I’d sometimes like to play games just with people from my own country as the geography can get in the way; some clue words mean nothing to me and the clues I give aren’t always understood widely. Would be great to see this added in future versions.I’d also like to see an option to turn off chat so you don’t have to read rude comments from people who don’t like your clues and take things far too seriously!Otherwise, what a great game!

Not only does it work just like the board game or online versions but the added edition of daily cases and scenarios keeps the game relevant while waiting for teammates and opponents, while I like unlocking words aswell would like to be able to pick specific genres like marvel codenames but still very good. Worth the money.

Game is amazing and had a lot of fun playing so far. Only thing I would suggest is that you add a game-mode where people can play a normal match but they can’t leave until the game is finished, I think that would be a nice addition so that we aren’t constantly on and off the app.

If you enjoy the physical board game version you will love this. It adds so many more game types and dimensions to the original. The other great thing is the community and being able to play against real people everyday.

I’ve love Codenames the tabletop game for years so the fact that I can now play any time anywhere they pass and play or play over the Internet with strangers is so much fun thoroughly recommend if you enjoy the board game or if you just like casual games to play on your phone

This app is the best 4.99 I’ve ever spent on the store. I liked Codenames as a board game, always have. But it works online beautifully. The attention to detail in this online version is also top notch. Rewards are good. New words are frequent and playing with friends is seriously fun. I love it.

I loved this at first and I still feel like that in many ways. But… now I have a better understanding of what is happening, it seems to me that a small minority of partnerships are conspiring to cheat the system. And that makes it frustrating and stops it being fun. I plan to play out my current games and that sadly will be that.

Was not expecting anything special but I’m so amazed at the way this has been designed. The way you can set your own clues and have them rated is genius. So much fun and even better than the tabletop version.
